Advantages: Good underground style
Disadvantages: Not for everyone
With the recent success of 'X' and the album 'Restless', i thought it right to bring to you an opinion on one of X to tha Z's lesser known albums 'At the speed of life'. This album is a couple of years old and is from a time when Xzibit was relatively new to the rap scene, even though he already had another album, '40 days and 40 nights'. 'At the ..' is definately more underground than 'restless', but Xzibit has done well to hold on to these roots even though fame has launched him into the top flight rappers. The album shows a deeper side of xzibit which most people won't see in 'restless', most people who aren't really into the underground scene most likely liken him to Nate Dogg, just doing the odd track with certain artists recently. There aren't many guest appearances on this album, again backing up his low profile throughout the rap world. This album however also backs up his outstanding ability as a lyrically sound rapper. His voice, not unlike slim shady, reaches out to people and stays in your mind so you keep singing it over and over again. When a track does that it usually means for me that it is a good track and it shows that you have listened to the track and therefore recite the track. I wouldn't recommend this to alot of fans who have just started to listen to rap music, or to those who've only heard his newest album as they are very different, 'at the speed of life' takes a lot more listening to and doesn't contain as much pop style music which attracts a lot of new listeners. For those who have listened to rap music for a while it is a good album and most people will enjoy it. A good album well worth the money.
