Advantages: A fun album of energetic skate punk music.
Disadvantages: Those that dislike skate punk music certainly won't like this.
4ft Fingers is a Cheltenham based skate punk band that formed back in 1996. In 2001 the band recorded and released its debut album 'At Your Convenience' through the record label Jamdown and it was here that I started following the band. Right from the very first moment that I heard this album I loved it, it's full of absolute skate punk gold and there's a good few elements of ska added to the mix for good measure. 'At Your Convenience' is by no means perfect, it is however a great first album of skate punk from a fine English band.
Tracks that stand out strongly here are those of 'Brickwall', 'Killing Time', 'Goodbye Good Luck', and 'Hopeless Romantic' also. All four of these tracks are excellent and do I feel showcase the bands sound here most magnificently of them all. This is fast and fun punk with a heavy pop influence; the tracks are catchy and the album is terrific fun to listen to. 'At Your Convenience' is not an album to change the world, it is however one that is brilliant to sing and dance along to.
'Hopeless Romantic' has always been my absolute favourite of them all from this album, it's a great sing along skate punk number with a fine chorus to boot. The song flows well, the lyrics are excellently executed, and at no stage does the instrumental performance of the band ever disappoint here. Everything about the track is brilliant; the guitar hooks are extremely catchy and the vocals really are incredibly well sung out here.
If you like skate punk then this album should most definitely be of great appeal; the tracks are often short, fast, and packed full of energy and fun; it's not the most intelligent album ever to have been released but it's certainly a great album to sing along to. 'At Your Convenience' brings back fine memories of years gone by every time I listen to it, memories of seeing the band at local music venues and thoroughly enjoying my time watching 4ft Fingers perform live. Definitely give this album a listen, it's a great starting point if you're looking to listen to the music of 4ft Fingers and for a good bit of skate punk fun you can't really go far wrong here.
Summary: 'At Your Convenience' is an impressive debut album from 4ft Fingers.
