Atomic - The Very Best of Blondie. (1998) The reason I have put the date of release at the start of this review is because there appears to be different editions, I am reviewing the 1998 release, though just to confuse things, it was released in the UK in '99 apparently, whatever, I downloaded it from iTunes this year when realising that someone has my old CD version. Never lend CD's or books, you forget who to and rarely get them back! The thing about 'Best of albums' is that they rarely are. What generally happens is that all the 'best' tracks get on there, which is fine, and then the music company adds a couple of 'fillers' and a couple of newer ... Read the complete review

Blondie are one of the few bands from the eclectic period of the late 70’s and early 80’s who’s music continues to sound as new and fresh today as it did then. In their heydays, before their brief but successful comeback with ‘Maria’ in 1999, the sextet managed 5 number one’s and a string of other Top 20 successes, all of which are on show in their ‘Greatest Hits’ package. The legendary Debbie Harry was the undoubted focal point of the band with her charisma, looks and unique fashion sense. However, she was joined in the band by Chris Stein, Jimmy Destri, Frank Infante, Nigel Harrison and Clem Burke who provide ... Read the complete review

This takes me back, maybe too fa back! Blondie's music might have dated but it is stooped in nostalgia and brings those days of early disco music coming flooding back. This album collects some of their biggest hits. Who are they: New York based group, fronted by the lovely Debbie Harry. They were at their peak in the late seventies and early eighties. On this album: It blasts off with the amazing 'Atomic' which encapsulates nightclubbing perfectly. A frantic glittery track filled with exuberant vocals and awash with a feel of hedonism, quite stunning. 'Heart Of Glass' is more refined and not quite as in your face, Harry's ... Blondie, fronted by the lovely Debbie Harry, were one of the bands that defined a genre and the end of the 70's. "Atomic: The Very Best Of Blondie" is a fantastic collaboration of the highlights from the band's illustrious career. Classics like "Atomic" and "Denis" shine amongst the quality selection, which features songs from Blondie's first run, from 1976-1982, and also includes two remixes of atomic. The album is astounding and, as someone who was not born until the end of Blondie's first run, I found I kept thinking "wow, I didn't know Blondie sang this" - most of the hits would be familiar to even ... blondie, is or was actually a group, which had its height of popularity in the 70's, with her recent releases, blondie from a distance still shows her good looks, which have unfortunately faded, her voice is brilliant and her style uniqe, the aptly named atomic features my favourite single atomic, i still have fond memories of debbie harry in the tight dresses belting out the siongs week after week on top of the pops. Some things will never be that good again, wish i could go back to the 70's again. ... Read the complete review
