Great atmospheric music (Attack Of The Grey Lantern - Mansun)
Member Name: Alternum
Advantages: Powerful songs; nobody has really heard of them Disadvantages: None!
Mansun are one of those bands that are caught in the middle: too alternative for mainstream lovers, and too mainstream for real alternative lovers. However, that belies the fact that this album is absolutely brilliant! Not immediately accessible - it took me about a month before I really appreciated it - this is guitar-driven, slightly indie-influenced music that is so much better than that of some of the more popular bands. Including the singles 'Wide Open Space', 'Taxloss' and 'Stripper Vicar', there are no bad songs on here - and that is something that can very rarely be said about an album. Powerful, emotive, atmospheric, and with impeccable musicianship, it is a mystery why Mansun are not more popular. Let the music flow over you, instead of listening really hard, and stick with it - and you will be richly rewarded. Summary: |
