Advantages: fantastic album, lots of great tracks

Disadvantages: RIP The Rev, very sad circumstances

Avenged Sevenfold are one of my favourite bands ever, they create amazing music that would be described overall as Heavy Metal, I fell in love with this band after hearing the song 'I Won't See You Tonight Pt 1' on their 2003 Waking the Fallen album.

Nightmare is Avenged Sevenfold's 5th Studio album and sadly was released shortly after the death of their Drummer James Sullivan 'AKA The Rev' (RIP), this album was part written by their deceased drummer as he had quite a musical ability and has written some of the most amazing lyrics and songs ever made by Avenged Sevenfold, however this album sadly didn't contain any drum work by the drummer so instead Mike Portnoy from Dream Theatre filled in to lay down the drums.

This album has a total of 11 amazing tracks on it, here is the track listing:
1. Nightmare
2. Welcome To The Family
3. Danger Line
4. Buried Alive
5. Natural Born Killer
6. So Far Away
7. God Hates Us
8. Victim
9. Tonight The World Dies
10. Fiction
11. Save Me

Nightmare
This is an angry song with loads of energy and amazing guitar riffs throughout it that is basically about waking up and realising that you are in hell, I know it sounds really morbid and horrible, but this song is really catchy and has a really eerie feel to it that is common among songs by this band.

Dangerline
This is another high energy song with amazing guitar solos and drums throughout it, this song has a real suspense to it and has a really strong energy to it, it starts off really energetic and then as the songs continues becomes more emotional. This song is about war and has quite an army feel to it, especially because of the drums on the track and of course the lyrics, referring to the 'danger line'. This song is taken from the soldiers view, going to war, feeling scared and lonely, the lyrics are really poetic and it is a really interesting song to listen to.

Victim
This song is really sad and is about how much the band misses their deceased band member 'The Rev' and feeling hopeless without him, this song has a real poetry to it and in my opinion is just really amazing. This is my favourite song on the album and if you are a long term fan of Avenged Sevenfold it is really worth a listen to.

Fiction
The music brought together on this song is amazing, I really love the piano (by The Rev) at the start as it gives it a really beautiful and mysterious feeling, this song is about how the world can be cruel, this is the last song that 'The Rev' wrote and it is really slow and emotional, it is the perfect tribute to him as a song writer, with the closing lyrics being:
'So tell everybody, the ones who walked beside me yeah, I know you'll find your own way, when I'm not with you tonight'.

Rest of the album
I can honestly say that there are no weak tracks on this album, there are a good mix of angry, passionate songs and emotional more serious songs, this album has a real emotional feel to it as it is in memory of their deceased drummer 'The Rev' and some of the lyrics throughout the more serious songs are beautiful. Also there is a number of amazing guitar solos from guitarist Synyster Gates and Zacky Vengeance, bass by Johnny Christ and the lead sing M. Shaddows has a really versatile voice for both singing the more emotional tracks and the angrier scream like tracks.

Price
You can pick this album up in HMV or any of the supermarkets or online, I got mine in HMV for around £10 last year, which wasn't too bad of a price as there are lots of great songs on it and I have got quite a bit of listening out of it.

Overall
I think this is one of Avenged Sevenfold's best albums and a perfect tribute to their lost band member 'The Rev', I think that anyone who likes a bit of heavy metal would appreciate this album, and I have definitely got my monies worth from it as I listen to it quite a lot. I especially love the guitar solos and the vocals are also amazing on this album, in fact the bass and drums are flawless and creative in my opinion as well. Overall I would give this album 5 out of 5 stars.
