Not as good as other albums!

B'day is the second album from Beyonce. It was released in the United Kingdom in 2006. The CD is currently available to buy from Amazon for a price of £3.85 which I think is great value for money.

      ~ * Track Listing * ~

      1) Dejavu - feat. Jay-Z 2) Get Me Bodied 3) Suga Mamma 4) Upgrade You - feat. Jay-Z 5) Ring The Alarm 6) Kitty Kat 7) Freakum Dress 8) Green Light 9) Irreplaceable 10) Resentment

The album has a very Urban-Pop sound and is very modern - even now, eight years on. The songs on here are ok. They are very diva-ish with the likes of 'Dejavu' and 'Green Light'. One of my favourite songs on here is the laid-back song 'Irreplaceable' as it's just so catchy. Another song which I really like is 'Resentment' as it is a lovely emotional ballad. I also like the fact that Beyonce's fellow Destiny's Child bandmates have joined her on this track.

Apart from these songs, there isn't anything that really stands out on the album for me which is a shame. I find that I end up skipping a lot of tracks when I am listening to this album. The songs on here are very 'loud' and 'in-yer-face' which I don't mind with one or two songs, but when the whole album is like this then it gets a bit annoying. I have to be in the right kind of mood to listen to this I.e in a party mood etc. The album definitely gets you in the party mood!

Vocally, Beyonce sounds amazing on this album! Not only does she have a beautiful voice which is a joy to listen to; she also knows how to use her voice properly!

I actually bought this album not that long ago, and so I had gotten used to the 'latest' Beyonce which came after this album. The best Beyonce album, in my opinion, is 'I Am...Sasha Fierce' which came after this album, however I do not think that B'Day is as good as the 'I Am..'album. Whilst I like some of the songs on here, they are not the kind of songs which I would say 'ooh put that on again'. There's just something missing from it!

I would recommend this album if you like Beyonce, however, for me I much prefer the more 'recent' Beyonce.

      Thanks for reading!

B'day is RnB superstar diva Beyonce's 2nd solo album and was released in 2006, there are some massive tracks on this album that done really well in the charts.

You can buy this album in most good music stores for around £15-£20, it is £24.49 on amazon however you can listen to it for free on Spotify if you have an account. (for more details on Spotify see my Spotify review.)

As you can see there are some really great songs on this album, my favourite tracks are:

      Upgrade You
This song was really popular when it was released as a single, Beyonce and husband JayZ both contribute to this song, its a really powerful and confident song about upgrading your partener and helping them out, this is my favourite song off the album and well worth a listen.

      Get Me Bodied
This is a song about going out and partying, meeting someone and having fun, its really upbeat and happy and really gets you in a good mood for going out and having a dance.

      Freakum Dress
This song is about going out, putting on your favourite dress and having a good time, this is another song that puts me in the mood for going out and having fun with my friends as it is so catchy and has a really positive and fun vibe to it.

Overall this is a great album and if you are a fan of Beyonce I reccommend it to you, or even if you are a fan of similar artists like Ashanti, or were a fan of Destinys Child. This album is really great and was worth every penny spent.

Beyonce you can "Upgrade me" any time you want!!

To be honest I rate Beyonce more for her physical beauty than any other talent she has but my sister loves Beyonce's music and so I found myself, when borrowing her car for a long road trip and forgetting to bring along any music, listening to her BDay album.

I am a fan of Hip Hop and R and B but I find Beyonce's music generally too "commercial" and not "street" enough but I have to say I enjoyed this album and have subsequently downloaded a few of the tracks from the album. The album has a generally upbeat and Hip Hop feel and no one can doubt Beyonce's amazing singing voice. Her voice is so sexy and she always seems to hit every note to perfection.

      The best tracks on the album are;

"Upgrade U" - This track features her other half Jay-Z and is the best track on the album. Beyonce sings wonderfully as always and it has some fab lyrics to it too! With a fantastic beat and a decent little rap by Jigga, this catchphrase is still used in every hood in every country.

"Irreplaceable" - The track was the most successful one on the album in terms of the charts and was played constantly on every radio station when it was released. A bit of a girly track as it is all about telling your man to move to the left but it is a great track and has everyone screaming "to the left, to the left"! There is also a good remix of the track featuring Ghostface Killa, who lays an amazing few bars over the beat!

"Check on it" - Featuring Bun B and Slim Thug this was made for the film Pink Panther. This is a great tune because of the beat and the two short raps by Slim and Bun B. A great sexy tune which you can dance with your girl too! I love the video to the track, Beyonce looks great!!

"Get me bodied" - A track I had not heard until I listenined to the album but I am glad I did as this is a great dancy tune which is all about getting up on to the dance floor and getting your boggie on! I love the track and Beyonce kills it!

Overall I liked this album and although you do have to skip over a couple of tracks it is a decent album to add to the IPod. I think that Beyonce has definatley become a credible solo artist and no longer needs DC to shift units.

Beyonce has long become a household name in both the Hip Hop and Pop world and I am sure she will be around for years to come because of her vocal ability. Beyonce you can "Upgrade me" any time you want!!

        Disadvantages

Rnb at its best without being to deep and meaningful.

'B'Day' is the 2nd Solo Album by the fabulous American born RnB artist Beyonce' Knowles and after very much enjoying her first album and also her work with her group Destiny's child I obviously HAD to get this album. B'Day was released worldwide on September 4th 2006 and apparently only took Beyonce 3 weeks to complete. Which just goes to show that when an album is an emotional one from the heart (which this seems to be) then a work of art does not need to take years.

The album has a total of 13 tracks and lasts an average of 45 minutes (which is not very long for a full length album)------ and this is my opinion of the tracks....

        Déjà vu
This hit the number 1 spot in the UK but did not stay there for long. It is a very funky track, which features Jay Z, Beyonce's husband 'so the newspapers say'. It begins with a very angry sounding Jay Z almost 'grunting' so do not play to loudly if you have the windows open. But once Beyonce' gets into it then it's a hip shaking 70's track.

        Get Me Bodied
Starts with a countdown and then a hip whipping beat which is great if the base is on your stereo. But Beyonce' seems to stay on the same tone throughout the song which can get a little bit annoying and there is only a small section which shows off her vocal ability, a shame you can not turn her voice down in the one but still a great track about getting out on the dance floor and not being a wallflower!

        Suga Mama
Probably one of the tracks that I skip on this album. The lyrics are slightly odd and the song itself is not great and is definitely not one that will stick in your mind. Suga Mama is the sentence that takes over most of the chorus so if you do here the song you know what the title is!! A bit of a pointless song.

        Upgrade U
One of the best tracks on the album and one of the few featuring Jay Z which have not gone completely hip-hop. Great vibe to it, great beat and great attitude.. with a slick and sexy sound. Produced by Cameron Wallace. Anyone who likes RnB will like this track. Any females off on a night out listen to this and it will empower you before you hit the clubs!

        Ring the alarm
Starting the song with a siren sounds and with a very angry Beyonce' this is in the same league as upgrade you. It is basically about Beyonce' fighting to keep her man from another woman. Heavy beat to nod your head to but still keeping Beyonce's loud and tuneful. This was also released as a single from the album.

        Kitty Kat
This is a soft flowing song, with Beyonce' sounding very sweet and sultry, produced by the Neptune's so it has quite a jumpy beat and varies in tempo throughout the song. Not bad, but nothing special.

        Freakum Dress
Another empowering song to listen to before a night out about THAT dress you wear on a night out.... A fast tempo track and a great sense of speed through out the chorus which makes you want to dance but the actual song is nothing special. I wouldn't rate this one too high.

        Green Light
I loved this song, the beat is another one to make you nod your head and shake your hips. This is also produced by the Neptune's who know exactly how to work a song... this song varies in speed throughout the track and also changes in sound from a slightly more vicious tone to a slightly more fun sound and towards to the end a more soulful beyonce' lets her voice out with a great jazz solo at the end, not something you would expect when you begin to listen to the song.

        Irreplaceable
For me this is the best song on the album and also one of the best songs Beyonce' has ever recorded! The lyrics are fantastic and as soon as I hear it I want to close my eyes and sing along. All about telling someone they do not rule the world! This was the second single from the album released in October 2006.

        Resentment
This song is one of the very few tracks where you actually get the good soulful voice of Beyonce'. It is a slow song and sound very personal about Beyonce' being lied to and trying to forgive someone. Do not listen to if you have just been emotionally hurt by someone as this will make you cry. This is classic ballad material of Beyonce'.

        Check on it
Made for the Pink Panther film soundtrack and featuring Bun B and Slim it is a great RnB song with the edgy beats and sexy lyrics from Beyonce'. This is a fun song that you can dance to without it being to serious.

        Encore for the fans
This is a 400second little snippet from Beyonce' talking about being a strong person etc... I am not keen on these little intros on albums as they are pretty pointless. An album is for music not lectures.

        Listen
This is also from a soundtrack from a film called 'Dream girls' which Beyonce' starred in. A strong ballad about being a strong female and finding yourself. Another fantastic hit which gives me Goosebumps when I listen. Something which you can not help but forget the beat and the music but tune into the lyrics. Brilliant.

*** A deluxe edition of B'Day was released on April 3, 2007 as a deluxe edition, which includes the songs Beautiful Liar, a duet with Latin star Shakira, Amor Gitano, a duet with Mexican singer Alejandro Fernández, and also the Spanish versions of Beautiful Liar, Irreplaceable and Listen
        Overall Opinion ***

        My Conclusion

This album seems to be a very personal one which could relate to Beyonce's personal life but we will never know. It would have been better if it had a few more soulful tracks in there to show off her voice but never the less the tracks are great for all moods. All the vocals are strong and there is not one which seems to be a half hearted attempt to get the job done. I bought the album for £7.99 from the HMV high street store but you can definitely get some good deals if you shop around. I think this is a great album, Plus, the fact that the album got her a Grammy award in 2007 obviously means it stands up to the stars previous music attempts.
