Advantages: A reminder of how good the Ants were
Disadvantages: More punk than the hits you'll already know
During 1980 -81 Adam Ant was the no#1 pin-up, with pirate costomes and red indian make-up, and still managed to maintain a musical credibility with the double drum burandi beat accompanying all his songs. However prior to this Adam was a leather clad bondage obsessed punk and this cd collects the songs he wrote in this period which were later released as b-sides to all the hits. Those b-side babies in full are: Fall-in - an adrenalin fueled tribute to punk venue the screen on the green Making History - actually on Kings of the Wild frontier album, but apparently not released in the US - features the trademark Ant drum sound, one of the few songs in this collection to do so. Beat my guest- whining guitars tied to a bondage theme Friends - a list of imaginary friends including Stevie Wonder and big John Wayne anyone who can get him into a party free, with a chugging rythmn section propelling the song. Red scab- not much fun Juanito the bandito - AA wears a big sombrero to sing along to a spanish guitar - yes it is as silly as it sounds. Why do girls like horses - why indeed? a strange song complete with clip clopping coconut halves Yours, yours, yours - b-side to strip and musically very simular Kiss the drummer - classy 80's pop with catchy xylophone playing all the way through B-side baby - b-side to Apollo 9, has an excellent intro where he introduces the band who join in one by one and is a bit rockier than most. Also features Adam on Harmonica. Greta-X - feedback and whining guitars, forgottten what it sounds like already Human Bondage den - more bondage, but this time with those double drums Physical - very slow song with great rythmn, one of my faves from this cd It doesn't matter - punk sentiments to heavy guitars Christian d'or - a list of Adam's fetishes including blonds and cats, t
he breaks in the songs showing how tight as a band the Ants were. Viva le Rock - a 12" mix, of a song meant to only be a 7" As a whole, this is nearer Dirk wears White Sox than any of his more mainstream albums and it is all linked together by Adam's distinctive whooping vocals. Much more than just a teen pin-up this is well worth a listen
