**Introduction**

As a fan of R&B, Jagged Edge have been one of my favourite groups over the last few years with a string of classic hits like Let's Get Married, Promise and Goodbye. With Baby Makin Project they continue to produce smooth ballads with their own hip hop slant. This album is as ever produced with the help of Jermaine Dupri who has been a key part of the success of the group since their 1997 debut A Jagged Era and beyond.

**Baby Makin Project**

This album was released on 25th September 2007 and features eleven tracks of the unmistakable Jagged Edge R&B sound. Baby Makin Project is the sixth album from the group led by Twins Brian and Brandon Casey. Producers include Jermaine Dupri, Manuel Seal, Selasi a.k.a "The African Kid" and Sick Cents all of whom are the production team for So So Def. The albums main collaboration is with female R&B star Ashanti on Put a little umph in it.

1.) Intro

As intros are just a short interlude to open the album they arent generally that ear catching. This is no different and does a decent enough job in opening the album.

2.) Put A little umph in it

This is the track featuring Ashanti and she provides a great touch as this track works well. It is one of the more uptempo tracks on the album and has a very catchy feel and the group blend well together with Ashanti.

3.) Whole town laughing

This is not a cover of the Teddy Pendergrass hit but a fantastic ballad which opens with soft piano and a percussive beat. This is about everyone around you looking on when you have messed up things with your partner after accusing them. Very Good track.

4.) Me That's who

A gentle track which starts with a piano which is also joined by a drum beat, The vocals are as good as ever and this is a fine track which is about standing by your lover throught the bad times aswell as the good times.

5.) Get This

Another gentle start, the keyboard comes in which is soon joined by the drum beat and a percussive shake. The keyboard tones are running right throught the track and provide a nice touch. A very good track.

6.) I'll Be Damned

This is a great track which showcases what the groups strengths are, smooth vocals and a catchy beat create the backing for what becomes a fantastic song which is about working hard to be a good partner for your lover and about working at the relationship to keep it going strong.

7.) Can't Get Right

The opening of this track makes you listen as it's very different to the other tracks openings. A haunting keyboard tone kicks in along with the beat and this develops into a fantastic track which is both catchy and emotive. This track is about a relationship which isnt working so ends but you want them back.

8.) Way to Say I Love You

This is about telling your partner you love them and making sure they don't feel that you take them for granted. This is a really nice smooth track which features their trademark smooth vocal harmonies which run throught the track.

9.) Sunrise

This tracks beat is one of the heaviest on the album but the overall feel of this track is a mellow affair. A very solid track which again showcases the vocal harmonies that the group are known for. A very decent track.

10.) Round and Round

Another smooth track which features their distinctive vocal harmonies and a firm beat which is what makes them different from the likes of Boyz II Men and Dru Hill. A very nice track with a good flow and some nice beats.

11.) Turn U On

This has a dramatic opening and then features vocoder tinged vocals which give a nice effect that works really well, I like the electric guitar tones that are in the background. This is a great end to Baby Makin Project which is quite different from the rest of the album.

**Overall**

This album is a very solid effort but there are two main drawbacks on this album Number one.. there are no tracks that will be regarded as highly by fans and critics as the likes of Let's Get Married, Promise, Goodybe, Walked outta heaven and any other of their most well known tracks. Number two the album is a little short at just 36.52. Don't get me wrong it is far from a bad album but it won't go down as one of their best albums.
