Advantages: original, good voice, lyrics are good

Disadvantages: songs don;t suite a large audience, some songs sound similar

Back to Black is Amy Winehouse's second album she has released, which was released on 4th October 2006 with the record company Island Records. I think it's a good album, although it's not really my cup of tea i think it appeals to a particular audience as it's got a very uncommon style.
The album was extremely successful, it won several awards, which
included:
Best Pop Vocal Performance
Best Female Pop Vocal Performance
Song of the Year
Record of the Year
Track List:
"Rehab" - 3:35
"You Know I'm No Good" - 4:17
"Me & Mr Jones" - 2:33
"Just Friends" - 3:13
"Back to Black" - 4:01
"Love Is a Losing Game" - 2:35
"Tears Dry on Their Own" - 3:06
"Wake Up Alone" - 3:42
"Some Unholy War" - 2:22
"He Can Only Hold Her" - 2:46
Rehab was the first single released from this album. It's a jazz and R&B song which was released on 23rd October 2006 in the UK, and on 22nd May 2007 in America. It was produced by herself and Mark Ronson, and the lyrics were about Amy refusing to go to an alcohol rehabilitation centre when her management team were trying to get her to go. The song was reasonably successful, it was number 1 hits in Norway and Hungary, the highest position in the UK charts was at number 7, and it reached number 9 in America on the U.S Billboard Hot 100. In February 2008 the song also was awarded three Grammy Awards which were for Record of the year, Best female pop vocal performance and also song of the year. It's a very good song, very original sounding, cross between 3 different types of music which is the reason it is so original she mixes jazz and R&B with soul and it produces original songs. I liked the background music in this song it went very well with her vocals too.
The second single released from this album was You Know I'm No Good. This song had a slightly different edge to it compared to the previous ones, it had jazz, soul and R&B still but this song also had a hip hop edge to it too. The song was released in the UK on 8th January 2007 and was released in the US in the middle of February 2008. This song wasn't quite as successful as the previous song Rehab, but it still managed to get to number 18 in the UK singles chart and number 58 in the US, it failed to reach No.1 anywhere. I think this song might not have been as successful because it was quite similar to the rehab song in my opinion but i liked both the songs equally, although they weren't my favourite songs. I like the opening music to this song it's very upbeat, and I prefer this song to most of the songs on the album because of this reason.
Tracks 3 and 4 on the album were not released as singles but were very good songs on the album.
The third single released from this album was called 'Back to Black', it was released on 30th April 2007 in the UK. The single finished as the 85th biggest selling single in the UK in 2007, with sales over 90,000. It had mixed success, it was a number 1 hit in Israel, and featured in the top ten in Austria, Germany, Luxembourg but only got to number 25 in the UK Charts. This was my least favourite single she released from this album, I didn't like it that much it's very slow and I don't like the background music i don't think the two go together very well, however the singing is very good quality.
The 5th song released from this album is 'Love Is A Losing Game', it was released on 10th December 2007. It has become the least successful songs from the album, however, it's my second favourite from the album as it's more upbeat than rehab and back to black in my opinion. The track couldn't break in to the top 40 and has only reached number 46 so far, which i think is because the songs are starting to sound the same and less original so people get bored of listening to the similar sounding songs.
The 4th song released from this album was 'Tears Dry On Their Own' which was released on the 31st July 2007. This song was her second most successful song behind Rehab, as it spent several weeks in the UK Top 40. The single also managed to become UK's
93rd biggest single as it sold just under 85,000 copies. Overall the song managed to get in to the top 20, at 16 and was a top 10 hit in Croatia. I like this song, it's my favourite from the album as it's the closest to the type of music i like as it's more upbeat whereas most of her songs are quite slow and i don't like slow music. The song also managed to get to number 40 in America which is very good because it's hard for artists outside the UK to get onto the American chart because they have so many popular artists from their country.
Overall i rate this album mixed, as i like some of the songs but i really don't like some of the others on the album, so the quality of the tracks in my opinion are not very consistent. The album as a whole did very well, it had number 1's in the UK, Austria, Denmark, Netherlands, Eurupean Album chart, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal,Spain, Switzerland and the United World Chart, it also reached number 2 on America's album chart. This album is not one of my favourites because i prefer more pop type of music, however, i think the album is still very good because she clearly has a very talented voice and it's very original too which i think is good because there are some artists that sound similar like they have copied each other.

Summary: The album is original...
