Advantages: Proper lyrics and great vocals.

Disadvantages: A couple of weak tracks.

As a lady now mature in years I am completely out of touch with what the music scene hold today and really have little interest in finding out, however a few months ago my grandson who is only 9 years old sat beside me on my couch at home and insisted that I insert an earphone from his MP3 player into my ear and share his music.

I was expecting the worst but was actually quite surprised, there was no big banging bass drum and no silly screeching sound effects, in fact what I was listening had a jazz theme to it.

Could my 9 year old grandson really be listening to jazz, was he as out of touch with modern music as I was? No, what he was listening to was Amy Winehouse, he informed me and as all I knew of Amy Winehouse was what I had read in the papers, I could not believe this was the same woman.

The album he was listening to was her Back to Black album which he has now burned to CD for me and I listen to regularly. I have to admit I do not like all the songs but I do like most of them and tracks such as "You Know I'm No Good", which has very powerful lyrics and "Love Is a Loosing Game" which again has strong lyrics but also has a real sixties feel to it and helps me remember my youth, have become real favourite songs of mine alongside some of the much older music I am mainly to be found listening to.

The jazz feel to some of her music gives it a real edge and the fact that she sings songs with proper lyrics and has feeling in her voice when she sings, sets her apart from most of the rubbish churned out today and although she is clearly a girl with troubles she can certainly sing and having seen her now on video also, she can certainly perform too.

I hope she gets over her addictions and continues to make great music and I would recommend this album to people of any age as it is good for my 9 year old grandson and also for me and it is fair to say I am a good bit older than 9!
