by XICripZ - written on 15/08/09 (Very useful, 40 readings)
Rating:

Erykah Badu released "Mama s Gun" in 2000 as her second album. The Neo-Soul star broke through in 1997 with her killer debut, "Baduizm", in which she showed great creativity by writing and producing the whole record in a consistent manner whilst attempting to bring back the sounds of seventies Soul and still managed to progress things along in order to influence many other in the game with her unique mixes of R&B, Funk, Rock, Hip Hop and Jazz. 1. "Penitentiary Philosophy" (Intro) 2. "Didn t Cha Know?" You here that Jay Dee steps up to perform the production in this one and you know that with this legendary Hip Hop ...

New Amerykah Part One (4th World War) - Erykah Badu

Premium Review Baduism is back! (351 words)
by SpookyMoon - written on 12/04/09 (Very useful, 33 readings)
Rating:

This is probably the most ignored of Erykah Badu s albums. Although she is an amazing singer and a brilliant songwriter, for some reason she never seems to gain as much credibility as other artists in her genre (dare I say male). It really is unfair because her lyrics are really quite raw and politically focused. You would think this would put her up there with Rage Against The Machine and their amazing Killing In the Name of . This album is probably her most hip-hop sounding album so far, but still with a really mellow sweet sound (considering the topic of her songs). It also have a really vague and experimental sound at times, changing flow and sometimes even ...

Premium Review I Know You Got (Neo)-Soul (1159 words)
by XICripZ - written on 07/05/09 (Very useful, 66 readings)
Rating:

"Baduizm" dropped in 1997, and came as the debut album from Erykah Badu . It sees her mark a new era in Soul as she brought it into the commercial market again, after a drought since the seventies, as does so with subtle Hip Hop elements to create what is now known as Neo-Soul, and is performed by so man others in the game today. 1. "Rimshot" (Intro) 2. "On & On" This was the song which most knew her for at the time, as it was her breakthrough single and has her just kill it with the way that she just seems to float as she delvers the lyrics and make everyone want to hear more from her. It shows the best of her vocal ability, and was ...
