The Very Best Of Nina Simone Vol.1 - Nina Simone
by kayelletee - written on 30/08/06 (Useful, 251 readings)
Rating:
About 5 years ago one of my friends recommended Nina Simone to me and, putting the recommendation down to some freak of nature and classifying Nina Simone as someone I thought my grandmother might listen to, I failed to take heed - MISTAKE! Enlightened by the legendary Muller yoghurt ad, I discovered that I actually ALREADY liked Nina Simone (I just didn t know that the person singing WAS Nina Simone!) Inspired by the power of advertising, I bought The Very Best of Nina Simone from cd-wow.com last week. They ve got it for £8 at the moment and if you do a Google search you can almost always find a voucher code that gives you a wee bit extra (£1) off. Including ...
The Great Nina Simone - Nina Simone

Rating:
Okay Nina Simone , it's about time we set the record straight, you know this woman can sing, of course you do, but I mean she can really sing, the sort of voice that goes right to your bones and right into your soul. A great voice is one thing, couple with stunning songs and you've got a remarkable recipe. Everything song on this album is amazing, her voice is able to carry songs like few others. Compare this woman with modern artists and you can be left in no doubt that we have lost something in today's ...

the front sleeve. With her dark, heavily made-up, fake-eyelashed eyes one might expect cover versions of 60's pop songs about broken hearts and popsicles. But anyone who knows anything about Nina Simone would know to expect great blues and a fantastic vocalist. Simones smokey, sensual voice accompanies her own distinguished piano arrangements. So deep and sublime, Simones voice has been popular with lovers of jazz, soul, gospel, blues and pop. Yet she has stuck to her own thing throughout her career, avoiding pushes to perform for the more commercial side of the music industry. This compilation holds three of her most famous tracks, 'I Loves You Porgy', ...

Great music, wonderful insight into the band before they really shook the world
Not their finest album as they were still 'growing' artistically

Few good tracks.
Too much stuff that has been in the charts in recent years.
One Tree Hill 2
Some great tracks, some well known artists, really good mix of music.
One or two weaker tracks.
Lionheart: Tussle With The Beast - Klashnekoff
he's from the uk, and only talks knowledge

Detroit Rock City - Soundtrack
classic 70s rock songs + alcohol = happy bandcamp
horrendously awful inclusion of a cover version...
