Newest Review: ... they for me were the best when they were a trio. They formed way back in 1982 and according to an article I read, in 1988, ... more

... they entered the Guinness Book of World Records as the all-female group who have the most chart entries in history, a record they still hold. As I'm not that old the first song of their I actually remember coming out was Venus. I still remember vividly to this day my friend and I dancing around her living room to this song blaring on the record player (yes, record player, not CD, DVD player which were not invented then!!). It was great because the song really built up the word Venus and by the time you got to this bit...more

Premium Review Greatest Hits - Bananarama: Goddesses on a Mountain Top (610 words)
by - written on 16/09/09 (Very useful, 46 readings)
Rating:

Goddesses on a mountain top!! With the news that one of my favourite bands from the 80's were reforming I had to do a review on my favourite album of theirs. Yes, Bananarama are back and ready for their comeback but don't expect boyish haircuts and boyish clothing this time around. Nowadays they have a more sophisticated look which is probably a good thing given that you can't really call them a girl band anymore, more like a woman band. They were your original girlband, before the days of the Spicegirls. The group were a trio, made up of Siobhan Fahey, Keren Woodward and Sara Dallin. For a while when Siobhan was absent from the group, Jacquie ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Putting the banana in rama (304 words)
by - written on 12/02/09 (Very useful, 19 readings)
Rating:

One of the top girl groups of the eighties. They look like they could be adverts for your local hair salon from the front cover don't they? But hair aside, the three ladies notched up an impressive string of hits in the eighties and nineties. This album collects their best moments. Who are they: Sara Dallin, Keren Woodward and Siobhan Fahey, the latter left and was replaced by a girl called Jacqui, who never had quite the same appeal. They make bubblegum, carefree catchy pop music. On this album: The sultry 'Venus' starts things off with a bang, with that nagging guitar riff and the girls declaring 'Im your Venus.' Still not ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review Greatest Hits - Bananarama: Before The Bananas Split... (1010 words)
by - written on 04/10/03 (Very useful, 719 readings)
Rating:

Pre Spice Girls and All Saints, there was one British girl-band who ruled the roost. For the vast majority of the 80's, the trio of Sara Dallin, Keren Woodward and Siobhan Fahey were omnipresent in the Top 40 with their own blend of dance-pop, and this Greatest Hits collection is a good demonstration that their music was superior to the dross of many of their contemporaries. Whilst they had a reputation for being a fluffy pop act only for kids, they were acquaintences of the Sex Pistols in the late 1970's before drifting into music almost by accident. After recording the flop 'Aie A Mwana', the peculiar African song which is their only non-hit ...  Read the complete review

Probably my album of the year, almost flawless The underuse of guitars on In Your Prime,

Britpop - 2003

Further refines the band's complex sound. Post-rock and prog influences lead to inevitable problems with length.

A decent album showcasing some fantastic Emotional Hardcore music. Not as strong as their earlier releases.

A less aggro-centric Slipknot with slightly more musical ability. Nothing original, merely an obvious smorgasbord of influence.

A good introduction to the band Misses some less known classics
