... 'Two tribes' was just as iconic in its own way, at the height of the cold war, a pop song with some meaning. Like the last track, this song has an instantly recognisable opening sequence and to say it is fast and frenetic is an understatement, quite simply brilliant. Never been too sure about 'War' but one just have to love track 4, their rendition of the Marsden classic, and it is actually very good, at least as good if not better than the original in my opinion. Unfortunately tracks 5, 6 and 7 are not worthy of...more

Premium Review Bang! Greatest Hits - Frankie Goes to Hollywood: Just do it. (724 words)

Bang! The greatest hits of Frankie Goes to Hollywood (1993). For those that read my reviews (and I am grateful) you may have guessed that I am on a bit of a nostalgia trip at the moment, especially concerning, in my opinion, iconic groups and albums of their time. FGTH spawned T shirts, sayings and debate and Holly Johnson and the boys brought camp pop right up into your face whether you liked it or not, much brasher than say Pet Shop Boys or Erasure. This album is essentially a re release of 'Welcome to the Pleasuredome' with a few additions and omissions, it was after all their first and best album. We have all the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Frankie Says....... (121 words)

Another classic album which takes you back to your mis-spent youth. Didn't everyone have a T shirt that said Frankie Says.... If you want a nice trip down memory lane to when the video for Relax was banned closely followed by the song itself (why to Radio 1 do things like that????) then this is the album for you. All the greats are on there and when you listen you just can't help singing along. My personal favourite from Frankie is "The Power of Love" - I had it played at my wedding. As for the Gay thing, we've always loved gay bands really havn't we? Right Said Fred, The Village People. Say no more. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Bang! Greatest Hits - Frankie Goes to Hollywood: Pop idol/Gay Icon (148 words)

The greatest band of the 80s really comes alive with their greatest hits LP Bang. There might only be 13 tracks but as you'll know if you're a fan most of the tracks are longer than standard record, the longest one being over 13 minutes. As usual with greatest hits the quality of the tracks is fantastic with favourites Relax and Two Tribes kicking it off. The album cover has a Frankie symbol embossed in gold (there's no mistake in identifying the artist of this album). There are no remixes just great originals. This music changed peoples lives and was among performers such as Prince and Madonna that revolutionised music so that ...  Read the complete review
