Released in 1999 just one day off the seven year anniversary of their debut album 'Battle for Los Angeles' was to be Rage Against the Machine's long awaited third studio album. Featuring the original line up (vocalist Zach de la Rocha, bassist Tim Cummerford, drummer Brad Wilk and unorthodox guitarist Tom Morello) 'Battle of Los Angeles' was a testament to their genius with notable affiliations, not least with top producer Brendan O'Brien. 'No Shelter' featured on Godzilla soundtrack, 'Guerrilla Radio' on Tony Hawkes Pro Skater 2 and promotional videos for 'Testify' and 'Sleep Now in the Fire' were directed by Michael Moore, it was voted by 'Time Magazine' as the ... Okay, I have to admit that when I first bought this album I was not a huge fan of it, I listened to it a few times and it took a back slot in my CD wallet, I have been a fan of Rage Against The Machine for a while, but the only song that I really loved at the time on the album was ‘Guerrilla Radio’ which everyone should know is off the MI2 soundtrack, as well as the main tune of the game smash hit ‘Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2’ so it is quite a well known song. But somehow or another this album managed to find it’s way back into my CD player, and it has hardly left since, I mean I still like Guerrilla Radio a lot, but I have become ... 3 albums in nearly 10 years is not good, but atleast the band are honest in promising us their very best rather than releasing dodgy albums every two years. In 1999 then, we see that RATM return (after an ongoing band scuffle...again!) with a new album, collectively written (unlike their last), and takes the best of both their last albums and adds something a little bit nouveau! In honesty, though 'TBOLA' is a truly mesmerising album, it doesn't offer much in longevity, and though there is some hints of fresh sparkle to their sound, their isn't anything we haven't heard two times before... Opener (and first single) 'Guerilla Radio' ... Read the complete review

First of all I would like to point out that I am not one of those people who just keeps saying "the first album was the best".Bearing that in mind I would like to sya "the second album was the worst".Battle of L.A. is areturn to the greatness first plumbed by Rage Against the Machine in their first album. This album has some brilliant tracks-"Guerrila Radio","Mic check","Testify" and "Voice of the Voiceless".Yet again we are treated to Tom Morello's incredible guitar sounds and Timmy C's funky bass.People tend to overlook the simple musicianship of Rage Against the Machine.Zach de La Rocha's ... Rage have yet again released an albumn which represents everything that they stand for. The battle of los angeles is like other rage projects overtly political as well as having amazing guitar based music throughout. Tom Morrelo continues to prove that he is one of the best guitarists in the world in song such as "Guerilla radio" and this combined with the talents of Zack de la Rocha on vocals makes the albumn a must for anyone who enjoys rap metal. Although not as striking as their debut, it is certainly better than "evil empire". ... Read the complete review

The Shadow's Madame - Cadaveria
Frank Booth's catchy guitars keep things entertaining.
Cadaveria's vocals aren't exactly phenomenal.
Seventh Coming - Cathedral
More accessible.
Repetitive.
Necroticism - Descanting The Insalubrious - Carcass
Perfect fusion of Carcass' two eras, with excellent and ferocious musicianship.
Longer songs may deter some.
My Passion Your Pain - Callenish Circle
Reminds you how good Dark Tranquillity used to be.
Dark Tranquillity are still doing an adequate job of that without these guys' help.
Memphis May Fire - Memphis May Fire
Some decent Post-Hardcore music with elements of rock thrown in for good measure.
Quite generic in sound, provides nothing particularly new to offer to the genre.
Heartwork - Carcass
Pioneering work of melodic death metal.
Disappointingly commercial after previous efforts.
Graceful...yet Forbidding - Callenish Circle
Excellent guitar performance.
Otherwise standard melodic death metal fare.
Far Away From Conformity - Cadaveria
Cadaveria can sing!
Frank Booth has run out of ideas.
King Of The Grey Islands - Candlemass
Still on top form, the band's finest album since the eighties.
Prevalence of filler material.
Blue Miasma - Krieg
Atmospheric.
Slow and dull.
