      Very helpful

Not the best that the Live Lounge has to offer but still enjoyable.

BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge Volume 6 by Various Artists.

The BBC have been releasing Live Lounge CDs for a few years now. They are made up of a collection of the best bits from the Live Lounge section on the Radio 1 show. The section usually consists of a well known artist singing some of their songs acoustically in the lounge and covering popular songs by other artists. The Live Lounge section has become a very popular segment on Radio 1 due to its 'stripped back' approach and the sincerity of the music that is produced, it is currently broadcast by Fearne Cotton on her show. Artists usually choose songs to cover from completely different genres of music to their own so that the tracks are unique and unexpected. Volume 1 was released in 2006 and since then the CDs have become very popular and greatly anticipated by fans.

Volume 6 was released on the 31st of October 2011. The CD has a great variety of artists featured on it and a brilliant collection of relevant and popular songs. I find that songs performed in the live lounge are quite hit or miss. Sometimes there are phenomenal live tracks produced and some genius covers and sometimes the performances just fall flat a little bit. It is always interesting to hear though as it shows how versatile and talented the artists really are.

      Disc 1

      1. Ed Sheeran: The A Team
Ed's voice always gives me goose bumps and this acoustic track is truly incredible. The song itself is amazing and there is no better way to start this album off than with one of the most successful artists around right now. I would love to hear Ed to some covers too.

      2. Friendly Fires - The Edge Of Glory
Originally one of Lady Gaga's finest tracks, this song surprisingly fits the bands style well. It is a little bit darker than the original and less "Madonna" but it is really good.

      3. Jessie J - Price Tag
This song is a lot of fun and Jessie J's personality shines through on the track with her quirky qualities. It is the best live version of this song that I have heard, Jessie's voice is just amazing.

      4. Example - Don't Sit Down 'Cause I've Moved Your Chair
This cover of an Arctic Monkeys track is definitely different. It doesn't really do anything for me though as nothing can beat the original, good effort though Example.

      5. Noah And The Whale - Life Is Life
I really like this band as they have quite a unique sound. This live track is great and very sincere.

      6. Miles Kane - Heaven
This version is so much better than the original track by Emilie Sande! The rock instrumental fits the song perfectly and Miles Kane's vocals are brilliant.

      7. Wretch 32 Ft Example - Unorthodox
I liked this song when it first came out but I didn't think too much of it. This version is amazing though, I love it! It really stands out as a great track when it is performed live.

      8. Vaccines - Last Friday Night
TGIF! A cover of Katy Perry's fantastic track which isn't quite as good as the original but it's close. I love listening to this version as it isn't as sickly but I do miss the saxophone instrumental.

      9. Vampire Weekend - Fight For This Love
Only on this album would you find Vampire Weekend covering a Cheryl Cole song. It is amazing and far better than the original.

      10. DJ Fresh - Louder
This is a breathtaking live version, the vocals are incredible and the song is completely stripped back from its original self. It is sung acoustically with a slow guitar instrumental.

      11. Magnetic Man - The Bug
I had never heard this song before I bought this album. I definitely wasn't missing out on much, some incredible bass lines but still one to skip.

      12. Hard-Fi - Sweat
I was excited to hear how successfully this band could cover a Snoop Dogg track. The answer is not very well. It is okay but nothing on the original.

      13. Nero - Live Those Days Tonight
One of the best covers on the album! Originally a track by Friendly Fires, Nero take this son to another level with some amazing drum and bass.

      14. Skepta - All Of The Lights
Skepta is no Kanye West but this cover is a good effort from a UK hip-hop act.

      15. Maverick Sabre - A Change Is Gonna Come
This song, originally by Sam Cooke, is a phenomenal track and this version is simply divine. I love the vocals and the simplicity of how it sounds. The piano playing in the background is stunning.

      16. The Saturdays - I Need A Dollar
Aloe Blacc sings this song a lot better but the girls put their own stamp on it with some girl band harmonies and high notes.

      17. Chipmunk Featuring Keri Hilson - In The Air
This isn't one of my favourite Chipmunk songs ever, without Keri Hilson I don't think that it would be much good at all. An average live performance of the track.

      18. Devlin - Let It Go
I really don't like Devlin, I think he sounds really aggressive when he raps so this isn't a song that I would choose to listen to.

      19. Alexis Jordan - Grenade
It was never going to be as good as the Bruno Mars original but it definitely puts a different slant on it and it is sung very well. I would definitely have preferred to hear Bruno sing this in the Live Lounge though.

      20. Ellie Goulding - Only Girl (In The World)
Ellie Goulding is well known in the Live Lounge as being one of the best artists to ever perform live there. This song is no disappointment as Ellie slows Rihanna's dance track right down and turns it into an individual ballad.

      Disc 2

      1. Adele - Rolling In The Deep
Any live acoustic track by Adele is bound to be stunning and this one is no exception. This song has become a modern day classic and it sounds even better performed as a live track.

      2. Katy B - Let Me Go (Originally By Maverick Sabre)
This track is really nice because it is great to hear Katy B perform something different. She has an incredible voice and a very unique talent which shines through on this song.

      3. The Wanted - Gold Forever
I didn't like this song when the band released it originally so I wasn't expecting much from this version. It is better than what I thought, although it is still one track that I skip.

      4. Aloe Blacc - I Need A Dollar
This acoustic version is a lot more sincere than The Saturdays take on the song. It is really catchy and a pleasure to listen to although I don't think that they need this song twice on the album.

      5. Birdy - Shelter
Originally a song by The XX, I find this cover very nice to listen to but nothing special.

      6. Plan B - Love Goes Down
This live version is soulful, entertaining and uplifting. Plan B can really sing and his talent is showcased fantastically in this song.

      7. Leona Lewis - Let The Sun Shine
Leona takes this upbeat R&B track by Labrinth and turns it into a ballad accompanied by a piano instrumental. It is beautifully sung but it loses its feel good vibe which is the main reason why I loved the song in the first place. Leona makes this song far more dramatic than what it ever needs to be.

      8. Diddy Dirty Money - Like A G6
If anybody could take this track by Far East Movement and make it even better than the original it would be Diddy. The Dirty Money girls take control on this track and they put their own unique spin on it.

      9. Mark Ronson & The Business - We Used To Wait
I don't really like the sound of the lead vocalists voice on this song. The original by Arcade Fire is much better.

      10. Talay Riley - Do It Like A Dude
Hearing this Jessie J sung by a guy is quite odd but I works amazingly well. Talay's voice is incredible and he changes the lyrics really well so that they fit perfectly.

      11. The Wombats - Anti D
I am not a huge Wombats fan so I can't really get into this song but it is a very good live performance from the band.

      12. The Kooks - Pumped Up Kicks
I love the original version of this song by Foster The People. I was surprised when I heard this version as I love it more! The Kooks really perform this song well and I prefer the vocal on this track.

      13. Pretty Reckless - Just Tonight
A great live performance of an incredible song. The vocal is really good and it is performed with an acoustic guitar. I enjoy this version more than the original.

      14. Taio Cruz - Hold It Against Me
I love Taio's version of this Britney song. He slows the original down and removes the bass to create a chilled out R&B track. Definitely one of my favourite tracks on the album.

      15. Robyn - Every Tear Drop Is A Waterfall
Coldplay are such an amazing band that whenever anyone covers any of their songs I can't help but compare it to their version. Robyn has a lovely voice and she goes to town on this cover but I would still prefer to listen to the original.

      16. Everything Everything - What's My Name?
This cover of a Rihanna track doesn't really work for me. It just doesn't sound right and the lead singer cannot stay in tune throughout, awkward!

      17. Two Door Cinema Club - Something Good Can Work
I love this song and this live version is really good. Their vocals sound so much better live.

      18. Villagers - Becoming A Jackal
I had never heard this song before this album. Another track I wasn't missing out on, definitely not my thing.

      19. Avril Lavigne - Tik Tok
This is an amazing cover. Avril sounds amazing and her voice really suits the chorus. Move over Ke$Ha!

      20. Take That - The Flood
A lovely version of a great song by a brilliant band. This live version of the song is a lot better than the original single.

Overall I really like this collection of tracks. In my opinion there are quite a few weak links on it but they have to put something on it for everyone. I don't think that it is the best live lounge CD that Radio 1 have produced as there are no tracks which I find exceptional. On previous albums there have been some really memorable covers but there is nothing that blows me away on this album. I like the mix of artists however it would be great to hear some American R&B stars on it, such as; Rihanna, Usher or Katy Perry. It would also be great to have another Adele song or one different to Rolling in the Deep as that track has been overplayed. I don't think that it is necessary for the album to have two different versions of I Need A Dollar, Aloe Blacc's live version would definitely be sufficient. I would definitely recommend this album if you like this kind of music and are a fan of the live lounge. Definitely have a look at the artists before hand though to see how many of them you like.

The album can be downloaded from iTunes for £7.99.
