I'm not sure exactly why I bought this album, to be honest. I'd heard the first single, "A Thousand Miles" on one of the music channels, and it seemed OK, but nothing that was going to make me rush out and buy the album. I'd read a couple of opinions on the album, which made it sound pretty good, but not the sort of thing that a fan of 1980's and -90's rock music would want to dash out and buy immediately. Lately I’ve found myself rather drawn to a type of music I can’t really describe. Is it pop? Is it indie? Or is it indie pop? Anyway my sister visits America a lot and always ends up buying me tons of CD’s, which have failed to see the light of day in the UK. Let me start by saying Vanessa Carlton will be on of the biggest stars of 2002. She has already taken the states by storm and is just starting to get recognition on these shores. Vanessa started at an early age and she was 8 when she wrote her first piece for the piano. However she became obsessed with ballet. Ever since I saw Legally Blonde, I fell in love with the soundtrack - one song in particular stuck out like a sore thumb? well, at least almost as sore as Lisa Loeb?s big ol? thumb. The other swollen digit was the then-unknown Vanessa Carlton with her ungodly-long ?interlude?, A Thousand Miles. I listened again and again.
