Advantages: Three good songs

Disadvantages: Totally unsuited for a Beach film

Images of beaches conjure up luscious chilled out sounds with samples of waves and exotic birds, not hard hitting techno and garbled rubbish from Blur’s off days. Only a few tracks stand out, Pure Shores by All Saints (I prefer the remix of the single), Spinning Away by Sugar Ray and Porcelain by Moby. The score is by the excellent composer Angelo Badalamenti, who is often used by David Lynch, yet his End Credits theme is ruined by the decision to include Leonardo DiCaprio’s narration over the top of it, which sounds like a more patronising Baz Luehrmann song (and don’t get me started on the casting of Leo!) and will force you to forward through about three minutes till he finishes. Don’t bother buying this, as you probably already own the good tracks from other albums. Lousy film, lousy soundtrack, lousy cast, but still a great book.
