... occasional warp on her voice and the sound... well, the song has a lot of this. And boy does it get annoying fast. Acoustic guitar enters as Shirley begins to sing normally, then punches you in the face with a quick bit of electric guitar before mixing it in with the acoustic to start out the verses (with the opening bit included between sections of each verse.) The acoustic and electric blend better in the chorus, after which enters a cute little buzzing noise. I like this song okay... but, as previously stated, t...more

Crowned Review Beautiful Garbage - Garbage: I never said I was perfect... (3185 words)
by - written on 26/09/01 (Very useful, 251 readings)
Rating:

There comes a time in every bands life when renewal and change is the only option to move forward. Despite both the excellence and success of Garbage’s second release, ‘Version 2.0’ the nagging feeling that it xeroxed the sound of their debut a little too closely was always present. The hint of a larger record collection then had previously been suggested was there, as was a definite acquaintance with classic intelligent female fronted pop, particularly on the Pretenders referencing ‘Special’. However, in general the album stuck a little too closely to what had already been a proven successful formula. On the evidence of this, their ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Shut your mouth and collect this Garbage. (2204 words)

I've loved Garbage since I first heard and saw the video for Special... though beautifulgarbage is the only Garbage album I currently own. Stupid Wal-Mart for not having it. (I must make noble quest to... MALL LAND to make up for this. And get Version 2.0) ...Ahem. Anyway, this is the album that irked a lot of fans. It seems they weren't happy with Garbage trying something new. (God forbid. How dare a band experiment with different styles. Damn them all to hell.) I never understood this, but I understand that while I loved their old songs, their newer material is something to be reckoned with as well. And that's a crappy way of saying... ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Beautiful Garbage - Garbage: You free your mind in your androgyny (1710 words)

Rating:

Garbage return after years (well it felt like years) of absence since the single “The World Is Not Enough” and the 1998 album “Version 2.0”. I’m a big fan of them, I have both their albums, I’m attracted by the angelically evil vocals of Shirley Manson blending in with what I consider to be a unique kind of multi-layered electronic rock. Garbage is/was released on the 1st of October 2001. Does “Beautiful Garbage” continue this innovative trend, or is it more garbage than beauty? 01 – Shut Your Mouth (3:28) “Just shut your mouth” On the first few notes, this would seem like a fairly ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Garbage worth recycling (367 words)

Rating:

The more I listen to "Beautifulgarbage" ( and you sdo have to listen to it repeatedly before getting the best out of it ) the more it's infectious grooves grows on me. Garbage's latest and greatest album definitely has a pop feel, but hardcore fans shouldn't worry. They haven't quite ditched their distinctive alternative-electronica trademark sound just yet. The highlights of the disc are "Til The Day I Die", "Cherry Lips (go baby go)", "Parade", "Breaking Up The Girl" and of course the first single "Androgyny." The hardest and darkest song by far is the first tune entitled "Shut ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Beautiful Garbage - Garbage: Really does belong in the bin (205 words)
by - written on 11/10/01 (Useful, 125 readings)
Rating:

I am a big fan of the first two Garbage albums, and play them regularly. I love the depth and strength of the tracks that typify Garbage as a class act. However, after rushing to grab a copy of Beautiful Garbage from the shelves, I wish I hadn't bothered. Quite simply, this is not the traditional Garbage I had expected. The keywords for this new album seem to be experimental, weak, and flaky. I would be very surprised if any track from this makes a noteworthy dent on the charts (unlike greats such as Queer, Special, and Stupid Girl). Even Milk (from Version 1) which is a great but gentle track, makes most offerings on this CD look like they're ...  Read the complete review
