It is a downtempo breakbeat that recalls almost some of the earlier downbeat artists, with synthetic drum beats that cascade it into the album’s centrepiece: "Saltwater." < br><br> I had heard this song before, of course; "Saltwater" was a massive Ibiza hit ...more

Premium Review Behind The Sun - Chicane: Immersion of the Senses (1031 words)

I must admit, I first heard of Chicane through the same channels as a lot of people did – the releases onto the charts. There is nothing inherently wrong with this, as Nick Bracegirdle, the man behind Chicane's delicious sounds, knows how to mix the right combination of ambient beats and melodic trance that captures his audiences' imaginations. What a thrill I finally received when I bought the album to find that not only had Bracegirdle created these well-constructed dance orchestrations, but managed to mix in some beautifully light trance that will transport you over the ocean and onto and island where it's blissfully quiet and the air is fresh. Chicane are one of the few dream-house/ ambient acts to get a great deal of popularity in the main stream charts as well as in the dance world. I have been a big fan for the past 5 years and I realised when I was thinking about writing this opinion that I didn't really know who or what Chicane was, I mean, was it one person or a group? I decided to investigate. As it turns out Chicane is the brain child of Nick Bracegirdle, who happens to be English and it all began in 1995. The first release, Offshore, was a huge success! In December 1996 it reached No.14 in the official UK charts, and No.1 in the MTV Dance Charts.Chicane were also extremely popular in the ...
