Advantages: GREAT MELODIES. FANTASTIC LEAD VOCALS!
Disadvantages: NONE!
In my old all boys' school in the late seventies and early eighties, Deborah Harry was the ultimate iconic pin up! She's been one of my favourite performers since, along with the rest of band that make up Blondie!
In this album it does exactly what it says on the tin! Gives us the Best of Blondie! What I like is the eclectic range of music. In subtle and blatant ranges, there is New Wave, punk, disco, reggae and rap. The combination of different melodies from especially the drummer and guitarist Chris Stein combined with the fantastically wide ranging voice of Debbie harry make the album very special and magical. The songs in order are
1 HEART OF GLASS -
2 DENIS -
3 THE TIDE IS HIGH -
4 IN THE FLESH
5 SUNDAY GIRL
6 DREAMING
7 HANGING ON THE TELEPHONE
8 RAPTURE
10 UNION CITY BLUES
11 I'M ALWAYS TOUCHED BY YOUR PRESENCE DEAR
12 CALL ME
13 ATOMIC
14 RIP HER TO SHREDS.
My favourites are SUNDAY GIRL, UNION CITY BLUES AND ATOMIC.
Deborah Harry and co do a remix of Atomic on another album that goes on for about 10 minutes. I much prefer this original version on here! I love the part were Debbie sings in french in Sunday Girl. Sounds very sensual, even erotic to a small degree!
Isn't it strange the way the music you love brings up memories from the past or even the present? These three all remind me of people or events in the past- SUNDAY GIRL reminds me of my first love. Union city of my Dad holding me as a baby showing the tatooes on his forearm- weird one that! Atomic reminds me of my wild first year at university.
Anyway this album really lifts my spirits and could be described as ' prozac in music form' - Not that I've got clinical depression or anything!
I think it's well worth the £5.38, and apart from online you can get it at pretty much all music stores. Now I'm sure I've still got that poster somewhere!
Summary: IT'S JUST GREAT!
