Advantages: Great Songs You Know & Great Songs You Probably Don't Know

Disadvantages: It Is Music Of A Certain Era

George Harrison, the quiet man of The Beatles, left behind a tremendous legacy as a song writer, a member of "The Fab Four" and as a solo artist when he tragically died aged 58 in 2002.

On this best of album you will hear him sing solo some of the songs that he wrote for The Beatles that they had hits with, songs such as Taxman and Something. Something may well be one of the best love songs of all time.

Something has been covered more than 150 times with perhaps Frank Sinatra's version being the best version ever. However hearing the composer singing it is a close second.

When you hear Harrison sing these songs you will hear much more meaning and deliberate feeling inflected into them because they are his songs from his mind and his soul.

His voice is not as distinctive in style as that of John Lennon or Paul McCartney but it does have a very pleasant almost American West Coast soft rock quality to it with a little bit of huskiness added.

Also on the album are some fantastic songs that he wrote for himself, some of which are heavily influenced by his empathy with Bangladesh and the spiritualism of the East. My Sweet Lord, Bangladesh and Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth).

There are varying styles on this album and the track You is a rocking good stomp your feet to effort.

There is some great guitar playing by him in the album, especially on What Is Life.

I will guarantee you that every track on the album is an absolute minimum of very good and after you have listened to it you will view him differently as both a singer and a song writer.
