Liverpool's Gerry & The Pacemakers were a fairly clean cut band, were polite to their fans and Gerry held his guitar extremely high up, a common trait for rhythm guitarists of the era. One of the Merseybeat bands, they were the first to have some big hits. 3 singles from their 1st album reached number 1 but the band disbanded by 1966. There's a lot to be said for quitting while you're ahead and I feel The Beatles could have taken a leaf out of their book instead of opting for the debauchery of self-indulgent solo careers with some of the world's worst lyrics (Ebony or Ivory anyone lol!) that they chose.
