Advantages: Some massive hits
Disadvantages: Some boring songs
Bryan Adams is a Canadian singer and songwriter whose work tends to be soft to mid rock with a poppy edge. His slightly gravelly vocals and distinctive guitar riffs are present on almost all of his tracks and they have made him incredibly successful throughout the world.
Released in 1999, The Best of Me is a collection of Bryan Adams' biggest hits. It also includes two new songs, one brilliant rock song entitled The Best of Me and one less inspiring dance-y track called Don't Give Up which is a collaboration with Nicholas Bracegirdle and Ray 'Madman' Hedges. Most of the other songs included are ones that you will recognise, although one or two of them I had not heard before getting this CD.
The CD has some brilliant moments. Summer of 69 is of course one of the most well known and karaoke-ed songs around and its summery, poppy and nostalgic vibe along with the simple chord structure are instantly recognised and enjoyed by almost all who hear it. Similarly Back to You is an addictive pop-rock anthem which always has me singing along, and When You're Gone, a duet with Melanie C, is a very catchy, rocky ode to lost love.
There are some excellent ballads on the CD too, including the phenomenally successful and beautifully sung Everything I Do (I Do it for You) and the lovely All for Love which also features Sting and Rod Stewart. Inside Out is another sweet and gentle song which I didn't recognise and which has some gorgeous lyrics.
However there are some less impressive songs on here, including the quite boring Can't Stop this Thing, the tedious and overly sappy Let's Make a Night to Remember and the cheesy The Only Thing that Looks Good on Me is You.
Despite the fact that not every song on here is a great one, this is overall a very good album and excellent value for money. You can buy it for under £5 on various internet sites, or for less on eBay.
