Advantages: some solid dance
Disadvantages: few so so ones
Rozalla has now released about 'Everybody's Free' about sixty eight times. Well maybe it isn't quite that much, but she seems to have a new version out of it every year. It is of course her trademark song and she will take it to the grave with her.
Nowadays Rozalla cuts a living performing at nightclubs doing PA's and scraping a bit of cash out of remixes of her big single. She did actually have a few other hits along the way, though most people have probably forgotten all about them!
There are thirteen songs on here, including the obvious one! 'Everybody's Free' is a gloriously uplifting track that is all about finding inner peace and being free with your love. It works well to this day and the message in it is positive and heroic.
'Are You Ready To Fly' has a stunning little riff in it which really works some magic, her vocals are also really good here as she sings about reaching for the sky and leaving the world behind. Sounds great really loud. If you like this one, then 'Faith' is a stormer too, more notions of positive thinking and a brassy vocal from Rozalla add lift and there's a strong house vibe to it.
'I Love Music' is funky and has a brisk rhythm which will get you moving, while the succulent 'This Time I Found Love' will empower anyone who is on the quest for someone special. Her vocals are radiant here and again the song is so rousing and fresh.
There are some misfires, avoid her take on REM's 'Losing My Religion' which fails to match Stipe's magnetic original and 'Baby' is lacklustre, thanks to a plodding chorus.
I do commend her though on not putting on another five remixes of 'Everybody's Free' which she could so easily have done! This is a neat little dance album that will appeal to fans of mid nineties dance music.
Summary: good pop
