Vehicles & Animals - Athlete

Rating:
One or two of the tracks are seem like filler or experiments (notably 'One Million' which has a horrible drum and bass loop in the middle), but it's overall a polished, likeable first album. Athlete have managed to push the boundaries just enough to be interesting with their fusion synth, pop and indie, but still kept it recognisable enough to be easy to pick up. Not going to last for ever, but not throw away either... Middle Distant Runners. ...

ATHLETE - VEHICLES AND ANIMALS The underlying fact that London based quintet Athlete are essentially an indie band may well scare many potential followers off. The word indie no longer congers up images of the glory days of Britpop when British titans Oasis and Blur battled it out for the number one spot, while the entire nation gazed on holding its breath in awe of the outcome (remember the 'Roll With It' versus 'Country House' fiasco?). Nowadays indie prompts memories of Toploader and poses as much potential as the next Travis album... basically we know what to expect. And to be honest the British music scene doesn?t need another indie band does it? ...

The Works - Queen
It was the best album from Queen to that date, still incorporating a seventies rock sound
The track, 'Machines' feels out of place here.
The Business: The Definitive Singles Collection - Madness
A complete history (almost) of the most influential bands of the eighties...
Contains 69 tracks and a lot of talking so is not a quick listen!
Spiders - Space
Some classic tracks, funny at times, definitely a cult favourite
A couple of weaker tracks but not many
O - Damien Rice
Excellent songwrting, strong performances, studio recording captures the "feel" of the songs
"Cannonball" seems to pale to insignifance alongside some of the other tracks
Love - The Cult
Well Balanced, Dark
Not Quite Gothic Enough
Greatest Hits Vol.3 - Queen
Excellent cross section of Queens style, Interesting combination of artists
May not appeal to hardened Queen fans
A Day At The Races - Queen
Some Good Tracks
Some Over the Top Arty Ones Too
Sirens Of The Sea Remixed - Above & Beyond Presents OceanLab
Some great mixes, lengthy album, good for the completists
Sooner or later, it all wears very thin
Battlefield - Jordin Sparks
WATCH YOU GO
LET IT RAIN

Great singing, great music
