now, dance fool! (Big Sounds Of The Drag - Junkie XL)
Member Name: Sephiroth
Advantages: Very danceable, enjoyable, brilliant! Disadvantages: None at all.
The term 'Soundtrack of the Summer' gets batted around very easily by music journalists, but with Junkie XL's follow up to 1997's 'Saturday Teeange Kick' he has made the soundtrack for all summers, past, present and future! His almost seemless mix of grooves, dance beats and hip hop breaks makes for outstanding listening on this remarkable album. 'Check Your Basic Groove' is a slinky beat propelled monster that doesn't let go until it ends, 'Zerotonine' is one of the best tracks you're ever likely to hear, 'Bon Voyage' should be played in clubs worldwide as it's furious beats and delicate samples pummel their way through your stereo. The highlight comes in the form of a 12 minute long dance epic- 'Power Of Big Slacks (Reprise)' if the original 'Power Of Big Slacks' made you get up and shake your booty, then this version most defiantely will. Big powerful beats, original samples, string sections and plenty more make up a fabulous and original dance track which is very danceable! 'Black Jack' is a curious little track, with its fragile beats, sultry string arrangements and funny sampling of a card self help tape. 'Next Plateau' finishes the album perfectly with its swirling guitars and cool beats. Summary: |
