... 'Discoteca' putting the stamp on what is to come. Not outright disco, but a mid-tempo affair which could entice you to dance. Neil's vocals sound fresh and upbeat and the programming of the synths on this is worth checking out. Highlights: Head for 'Se A Vida E,' which will lift the spirits with the summery melody. I am not sure what Tennant is singing in the chorus, but the song conjures up images of splashing in warm oceans and frolicking on beaches. It is one of their lighter moments. Also check out 'Red Letter Day' whi...more

Premium Review Bilingual - Pet Shop Boys: Arty Farty Pop (301 words)
by - written on 18/02/09 (Very useful, 33 readings)
Rating:

Everyone likes a smattering of Pet Shop Boys once in a while. I have been known to play them into the small hours, quietly wishing I was the third unseen member of the group. Neil and Chris' unique brand of pop has an intellect about it and a certain upper class charm. Who are they: Very English pop group, Neil Tennant on vocals and Chris Lowe on keyboards. They write their own material. On this album: The album gets off on a good foot with 'Discoteca' putting the stamp on what is to come. Not outright disco, but a mid-tempo affair which could entice you to dance. Neil's vocals sound fresh and upbeat and the programming of the ...  Read the complete review

Although I like the Pet Shop Boys and have some of their CDs, they are not my favourite group and I lost track of what they were doing in the nineties, so I was delighted when my brother lent me the special edition of "Bilingual". As I didn't have the singles what I liked the most was the remix album. I like all the tracks on the remix album but I would pick out the opening track "Somewhere" and the closing "Discoteca" as my favourites. This is a great CD to put on your personal Hi-fi and listen while on the train or bus. It really brightens up my morning and proves that Pet Shop Boys songs make great modern disco tunes. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Bilingual - Pet Shop Boys: Bilingual: Trendy Yellow Case! (189 words)
by - written on 26/06/00 (Very useful, 18 readings)
Rating:

This CD is worth buying just for the trendy Yellow see-through cover! Recently, this album has also been repackaged as a double CD, which is a bargain in Sales sections in Record Shops across the land! The CD begins with an upbeat track, "Discoteca", which then nicely links into "Single", the album's title track. The catchy chorus of "Metamorphosis" holds our attention, but "Electricity" is more of an album filler. However, all is not lost as the Top 20 hits of "A red Letter Day" and "Se A vida E" follow, sandwiching another poor track "It Always comes as a Suprise". The CD also features the hit ...  Read the complete review

More of the same from the Kooks, Some excellent tracks Takes a bit of time to grow, which will put some off. A little too similar to the debut

Timeless lyrical quality, creative, innovative . Constrained by musical limitations, aged a little .

Pop - Dance Pop - 2002

A good idea particularly worthwhile for the dance - orientated Pet Shop Boys . Poor tracks choice and pointless mixing .

Politics and beats - always a winning formula, A shining example of Real Great Britain Not much of a change from previous albums
