Advantages: Original, Great lyrics, Great music
Disadvantages: None
The year this album was made was the year I was born. What a fantastic comment to make comparing the two when you listen to this album you will know what I mean! Vincent Furnier (aka Alice Cooper) is one of the most talented musicians alive today. Not only is he a showman and a totally professional performer, he is creative and 100% original. The same cannot be said for certain rock bands around today who still try to imitate Mr Cooper's legendary songs and musical style. The Alice Cooper Group comprising of Glen Buxton (lead guitar), Michael Bruce (rhythm guitar), Dennis Dunaway (bass) and Neal Smith (drums) will totally blow you away on this album. I have always thought that they have never received the credit or acclaim they deserve for the musical contributions made on Alice's first few albums. Alice himself is extremely underrated and again does not get the praise and recognition he deserves. I have been listening to Alice since I was the sweet and tender age of about 10 so a total of twenty years really have been dedicated to him. I adored him then and I still adore him now along with my 5 year old daughter who I have managed to recruit into his loyal and devoted army of fans! I will now endeavour to give you a brief run-down of the tracks on this superb album.... Hello Hooray - The show opener and no mistake. This song sets the scene for the rest of the album. It has a fantastic guitar riff and some really cool vocals from the man himself. Raped and Freezin' - My personal favourite, this song is awesome man! Love the Mexican interlude and comical story behind this one! Elected - A lot of people who aren't particularly familiar with Alice's work will have probably heard this track. He did nominate himself for election at the time this record was released! Billion Dollar Babies - The title track and just a superb tune. This was apparently inspired by
Neal Smith's drumming in a garage where the band used to practice. The ultimate dream of the band was to be young and showered with billions of dollars. Self explanatory really! Unfinished Sweet - Again a really funny track. Has a great James Bond style guitar section and a stomach-churning audio trip to the dentist. No More Mr Nice Guy - This is Alice being his mean and moody self oh and don't forget sick and obscene. Generation Landslide - This again has a brilliant drum section and lyrics that only Mr Cooper will understand. He does however play harmonica on this one which as you will hear he can play just as well as he sings! Sick Things - This one will totally freak you out. What can I say? The man is a genius. Mary Ann - This is a quite brilliant tune. Short but sweet it contains the now infamous line "Mary Ann, I thought you were my man". Great piano too. I Love The Dead - Alice's ultimate closing speech. Again totally freaky but absolutely superb. It still sends shivers down my spine when he says "I have other uses for you darling". So there you go. I hope you enjoyed my attempts at being a record reviewer and want you to know that my comments are purely my opinions. You should go and buy the album now to make your own mind up. You won't be disappointed I can assure you. Long live Alice!!

Fishbulb - 31.07.03 Stupid fact for you, but Alice Cooper bought the original 'Jaws' shark model used in the film of the same name. He kept it in his swimming pool! :) |
