Goldfrapp's second album, Black Cherry, shows the duo moving into a very different direction than in Felt Mountain. In this album they dont just play it safe by showcasing their elaborate electronic pop songs. This album moves towards digital synthesizers and a general futuristic sounding musical range sailing towards the listener on the sexy voice of vocalist Alison Goldfrapp. Although this album is a brave step away from what made them famous, showing that they arent just a one trick pony-it really hasnt paid off as Black Cherry sounds really messy to the ear. A delightful offering from this British electropop duo, 'Black Cherry' was both critically acclaimed and a commercial success, with top 20 status for both the album and oft-remixed single 'Strict Machine'. Goldfrapp were nominated for a Brit award on the strength of this seminal release and their dreamy mix of clever electronica and surreal, pseudo-mystical lyrics led to over half a million recorded sales. This record picks up the pace considerably when compared to debut album 'Felt Mountain' and is all the better for it. Alison Goldfrapp has sung in the1990s as a guest with the duo Orbital she has also sung with Tricky then in 200 She and Will Gregory teamed up and have produced music together since then. In April 2003 Alison and Will Gregory released thier second album Black cherry.
