Advantages: Songs for you to relate to, sing to.
Disadvantages: None
My Chemical Romance are like marmite. You either love them or hate them. Deciding what musical catergory they actually fall into is a lot harder however. With inspiration taken from Queen
and dollops of emo and rock thrown in My Chemical Romance return with their 3rd album and the record
that blasted them full force into the spotlight.
Personally I have been a fan of the band since their 2003 debut 'Bullets...' and found this record to be a great comfort to me during a very dark period of my life.
Far away from the disgusting views the band are part of an emo suicide cult...
Packing a punch from the word 'GO' with 'Dead' Gerard Way throws all his might behind each and every song supported by a band that know how to please.
'Welcome To The Black Parade' was a worldwide smash and is the closest to 'Bohemian Raphisody' the group will ever come combining its melodic, opera feel with an over the top finish that will ensure it becomes a modern day rock anthem.
MCR also show their softer side with my two favourite tracks from the album 'I Don't Love You' and the short but beautiful ballad 'Cancer', written from the point of view of someone diagnosed with the illness. Way's vulnerability is clearly exposed in this track more so than any other on the album.
The band are not afraid to dip their toes in controversal waters discussing teenage gun crime in 'Teenagers' in which the singalong chorus is bound to appeal to everybody - even people who aren't normal fans of the group to the topic of terrorism in 'Sleep'. A topic which was responisble for the forming of the group after the September 11th attacks in 2001.
Whilst some of the tracks tend to get lost on the listener and blend into one after a while the end result is a record that is fresh and full of strength as MCR continued to defy all their critics and haters and prove that they are a force to be reckoned with. The closing song on the album 'Famous Last Words' is another over the top slice of rock heaven that left me longing for more and the title aside, I think we can all be certain that those are definately not the last words we'll be hearing from My Chemical Romance.
Summary: Favourite Tracks: I Don't Love You, Cancer. Spellbinding offering from the New Jersey Rockers
