Advantages: an amazing album

Disadvantages: nothing

For those who are not familiar with the band My Chemical Romance, they started of a small band from New Jersey. But with the release of their second album Three years for sweet revenge they have become a band that is describes by most of their fans as "life saving." My Chemical Romance is one of my favourite bands, so like everyone else I was really looking forward to their new album. And I was not disappointed.

The album was released in 2006. Through out the last two albums there has been a concept of revenge and romance but the black parade creates a new theme of life after death.

The end

This is the first song on the album which is surprising considering the name. Although it doesn't have the best tune or a great guitar rift like some of their previous songs on previous albums, it does have some amazing lyrics such as "if you look in the mirror and don't like what you see, you can find out first hand what it's like to be me". This song is quite slow, which makes the next song's fast rhythm seem more dramatic.

Dead!

The name of this song says it all for the songs theme. This is one of my favourite songs on the album and has a very catchy tune.

This is how I disappear

Like dead! This song has a very catchy tune. The albums concept of life after death is truly captured in this song. The song sounds quite upbeat, considering the lyrics are the darkest ones so far on the album. It has a very fast pace which works well.

The sharpest lives

At first this was a song that I always missed out when ever I was playing the album. But after a while I rediscovered the amazing lyrics that are the chorus. My favourites include "give me a shot to remember, and you can take all the pain away from me, a kiss and I will surrender". Like how I disappear it is very upbeat and has a fast pace.

Welcome to the black parade

This was the first single from the album the black parade and it is easy to see why. Although I do not think it is the best song on the album it has the main concept the album is expressing. This is shown in the chorus with the words "we'll carry on". It is incredibly catchy and after I first heard it I found myself singing it for weeks. It has an awesome guitar rift and some amazing lyrics such "you'll never make me, because the world will never take my heart".

I don't love you

This song is another hit single. It has a completely different concept to the rest of the album and is a beautiful song. It has a slower pace and the tune is much softer which really suits the voice of their lead singer Gerard Way.
House of wolves

This has never been my favourite song of the album and seems to be a lot like this is how I disappear and the sharpest lives. Although like the name suggests it is fast, furious and aggressive it just isn't in the same league as some of the other songs.

Cancer

Like I don't love you, this song has a much slower pace and is a lot softer than the other songs on the album. It is mostly played on the piano which a guitar coming in towards the end. This is a truly beautiful song that will bring tears to your eyes.

Mama

When I first heard this song, I thought the whole concept, the lyrics and vocals were incredible creepy. But this was another song that with time improved on me. The lyrics and tune are incredible catchy. The theatrical style is new to this band and works surprisingly with the vocals of Gerard Way.

Sleep

At first, I thought this song would be a lot like the hit single of ghost of you on their previous album Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge. I was surprised that it was completely different. The lyrics are simply incredible. This song has a level of contrast that works well, much like the black parade. At first there is some slightly fuzzy sounding whispering and then a guitar rift that builds up towards the chorus. The songs ends with Gerard Way screaming the words "wake up" and then there is a guitar rift that builds up, only to suddenly almost stop as the same whispering that started the song, ends it.

Teenagers

This is not one of my favourite songs of the album. It does add an amount of upbeat cheer to the album after the song sleep, which is necessary as the next song has a slow beat and a sad sounding tune.

Disenchanted

This is one of my favourite songs of the album. It starts of slowly but there is then a guitars build up towards the chorus. The lyrics at first sounded incredible predicable but then got better as the song reached its chorus, such as the lyrics "if I'm so wrong, how can you listen all night long?" suggest. This song is very easy to listen to.

Famous Last Words

This song is another single. It has a more aggressive tone to it and a good guitar rift. It is really catchy in both the sense of the tune and the lyrics. The pace of the song slows towards the end of the song. This song is one that would be enjoyed by anyone, no matter what sort of music they normally enjoy.

Blood (Hidden Track)

Blood is a bonus track to the album. At first I didn't notice it as it is completely silent until half way through. This song is rather catchy and has a more comical theme than any other song. It makes me smile every time I hear it.

I highly recommend this album to anyone. It costs around £10 and is worth it.
