If you've never heard of this band, please don't let the name put you off. While I've still to find out what it means (if anything!), I am in absolutely no doubt as to the talent of its members, best illustrated on this debut effort. The first thing to say is that the production is top notch. Every note comes through clear and crisp - it really lets you appreciate the quality of playing. The drumming is particularly good - extremely lively without ever being intrusive. In modern rock, it is so rare to find anything above humdrum keep-time, that this alone is a good reason to have a listen to Glen Graham's talent. Performances on the guitars ... I think it can be agreed upon that music is powerful. Music can be a drug that can change your feelings. Blind Melon, a band ruined by drugs, is a drug whose music alters the way you feel. It is something in their music that spreads and sucks you in. I am not one who knows about or has experienced true blues music, but from what I hear, I feel safe to say that Blind Melon will give the same type of experience one could expect listening to authentic blues music. Blind Melon takes you on a journey in their music. In one song you might feel like you are an artsy one tapping your toe in a coffee house. The next you are a naked hippy running through the field at ... Read the complete review

I bought this album initially on import about a year before it was released here before anyone had heard of them.I was privelleged to have seen them supporting Guns n' Roses on tour. For anyone not familiar with the band or their album,it is a heady blend of folk, rock and blues. They were fronted by an extremely charismatic singer named Shannon Hoon who died of an OD a few years back. They released one other album while he was alive (Soup) and one since his death (called "Nico" in tribute to his daughter.)These strayed from this original album and are weaker in places. Anyway back to this album;the theme running through the tracks on this album is one ... Read the complete review

This album is so crafted and cleverly put together it amazes me. I've been a fan for about a year and heard this album first. My mate played me "No Rain" and I couldn't stop listening to it! The album just creates so many images and evokes so many emotions. The guitar, bass, drums and vocals all fit togther so well. It's one of those albums were everything seems to slot togther as you listen to it. You can tell where it's going but the way in which Shannon Hoon (lead singer) gets there is intreeging. Hoon's voice is like no other and the singing patterns are so original and unexpected. The album is quite 'rocky' but ... Read the complete review

Blind Melon were a Led Zepellin inspired band who really were as good as the mighty band themselves. They made two albums before their lead singer Shannon Hoon died from an overdose. This album brings together early stracks and a few songs from the final sessions during the making of what would have been their third album. The album also contains their biggest hit No Rain which is revisited here as a kind of acid flashback. The production quality fluctuates. Rogers Steven’s guitar work is obviously Page inspired. This album is a fine way to end the Blind Melon story. If you like Led Zeppelin you'll like this. ... Read the complete review
