... and, in the 1970s, went on to record the most personal album of his career and possibly of all time. It is often customary with album reviews to identify stand out tracks and even to give the songs individual ratings out of ten, yet to do so to Blood on the Tracks would be to negate the wonderful natural quality that is consistent throughout. Dylan has since gone on to record a series of listenable, but not exceptional albums, yet Blood on the Tracks would be a worthy peak in the back catalogue of any artist. Any...more

Before I begin the review, I will say that even though I usually give ratings to each song, in this case I will not, as every single track is worthy of five stars, which for me just shows what a truly classic album this is, as few albums can come to that level. Now I have been a long time Dylan fan, and even though this was one of the first albums of his that I bought, I still love to listen to it, it is just spectacular. It is though an emotional record, taking down Dylan's thoughts on his split from Sara and what he is left with, they were together for some years, so it hit him quite hard and dominated many of his songs for a few albums. The tracks themselves go back ...  Read the complete review

Bob Dylan - Blood On The Tracks This is widely regarded as one of Bob Dylan's finest works. It was slammed by the critics when it was first released but years on we are still tapping our feet to the music and feeling the pain in his lyrics. Written at a time when his marriage was on the rocks, Dylan manages to unleash his pent up emotion sublimely through this collection of 10 songs. Far removed from his earlier works which revolved very much around activism, this takes a look at the position in which he found himself in 1975. It is purely about pain, hurt and loss. At the time he was asked by a reporter whether or not he enjoyed producing the album and ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Blood On The Tracks - Bob Dylan: Stunning (167 words)

Certainly one of Dylan's best, considered by many hig finest, 'Blood on the Tracks' is a lush collection of delicate affecting love songs that will touch even the coldest soul. Coming from nowhere, the acoustic songs contained within combine to form a beautifully sombre & reflective collection. There are tinges of regret & sorrow, most tracks form a eulogy to the failure of his marriage the previous year, it proves to be perhaps the most revealing album in Dylan's back catalogue. Some suggest the alternate takes which subsequently appeared on the 'Bootleg Series' releases are superior to some found here, but I prefer to think that both the ...  Read the complete review

In the 1960's Bob Dylan revolutionised music with his holy trinity of albums (Highway 61 Revisited, Blonde on Blonde and Bringing it all Back Home) and was begrudgingly forced into a position as a quasi spokesperson for his generation. Needless to say that Dylan, being Dylan, shunned his new position and, in the 1970s, went on to record the most personal album of his career and possibly of all time.
