Blue - Third Eye Blind

Until a few weeks ago, I had never heard of this band, if one of their songs had been played to me I would have had not a clue who they were. Then a friend of mine insisted that I download 'Jumper', a song from their first album. When I heard it I thought, pretty good, the second time I thought, why haven't I heard of these guys before? The third time I was demanding to be taken to the nearest record shop to buy their album. I was after this album for months but was not willing to pay the price that it was at most cd stores, £15.99. When I was holiday and found the album for a tenner, I bought it straight away. The opening track to the album, 'Anything' is the usual third eye blind style song, and is probably one of the best songs on the album. If, like me, you were obsessed with 'Semi-Charmed Life' you'll love this song. The song is followed by some average tracks, nothing special. Like many great American alternative rock bands, Third Eye Blind are pretty much unknown this side of the atlantic and the UK is musically much worse off for it. I defy anybody who is into the alternative rock scene to listen to this album and not rave about it. It starts off with a gentle intro on a track called 'Anything'. Well, gentle for about twenty seconds and then you feel as if the guitar sweetly serenading you a short time before has been used to crush the side of your head in. This amazing and intelligent American rock band have hardly touched the British shores, probably not appealing to our 'Dance Generation'. I beg you, try to listen to this album or their self-titled first album. Many people may remember 'Semi-Charmed Life' which is still played quite a lot (even though its dark song covered by a poppy exterior).
