Advantages: Extremely quickly played, catchy in its own way
Disadvantages: A tad too brutal for most people, profane lyrics
Coming across an album named like this, I decided I had to give it a listen - little did I know at the time that Belphegor have a habit of making goat related albums, this 2008 release was 3 years after their last bovidae influenced album "Goat Reich - Flesh Cult".
Belphegor are insane chaps, blasting out death metal in the most venomous of ways, this is the kind of album that you turn down when you near traffic lights in case anyone hears it and reports you as a psychopath, Belphegor is extremely brutal, hatred filled angry music that seems so vulgar to the ears, that you can't imagine anyone taking the dark imagery particularly seriously.
Music wise they are a tight outfit and any fan of death metal should be able to appreciate both their talented musicianship and the strength of the vocals. I wouldn't class Belphegor as technical death metal, their imagery and some of the sounds lend itself to black metal although for the most part it is musically death metal.
Whether you like it or not, you can't accuse these Austrian chaps of not putting their blackened hearts and souls in to the music, the release of fury is endless from start to finish but due to whacky changes in pace, no one giving it a proper listen can accuse the tracks of sounding similar! I didn't pick up on this album last year but it's a very ballsy effort and deserved more coverage, at the very least in heavy metal circles.
1 Bondage Goat Zombie
2 Stigma Diabolicum
3 Armageddon's Raid
4 Justine: Soaked in Blood
5 Sexdictator Lucifer
6 Shred for Sathan
7 Chronicles of Crime
8 Sukkubus Lustrate
9 Der Rutenmarsch
Summary: Spewing fury from the bowels of hell!
