A rap artist in a metal band. What's not to like?

"Born Dead" is the 2nd studio album by Ice-T's metal band, Body Count. It was released in 1994 on Virgin Records and produced by Ice himself with Ernie C. The line-up for the album was Ice-T (vocals), Ernie C (guitar), D-Roc (guitar), Mooseman (bass) and Beatmaster V (drums).

Body Count's eponymous debut album was a little bit special, and a band needs to top their last album to stay in the game. Fortunately for us, Ice-T and his band manages to pull it off on "Born Dead". That's not saying this album is better than its predecessor, but it's still packed full of quality songs.

You've either got it or you don't as the saying goes, and Ice-T has it in abundance. Compare it to the band's debut album, and you get a completely different direction. Mostly gone is a lot of the heavy, almost thrash-like playing, replaced with a more groove-infested sound. Songs such as "Master of Revenge", "Last Breath" and "Shallow Graves" adopt a slower tempo, but there are still a track here and there in the faster mould like "Necessary Evil" and "Killin' Floor".

A surprise inclusion has to be the cover version of the classic song made famous by Jimi Hendrix, "Hey Joe", although it has to be noted that it's not a compete cover, and Ice does change the lyrics around a little. Just when you thought Ice-T had forgot, comes the final and titular song, which is an attack against racism, brilliantly written and performed.

In summary, "Born Dead" is a creditable follow-up to a very good debut album. As with all Ice-T records, there comes a certain amount of colourful language, and "Born Dead" is no exception. It wouldn't be Ice-T without, and it probably wouldn't have the same effect. That said, I would still recommend this album to those that like heavy metal played the way it should be. It's not the best album in the world, but it is a testament to the fact that if you put your mind to it, you can do anything. Ice-T certainly believes that.

Well, It's very interesting talking about this band. Now here is a HC/Metal band formed by rapper ice-t a very intelligent man, has no prejudice about this two kind of music Hip Hop and Metal, wanting to send his message to the Hard Core scene he formed this Body Count, musically speaking there is nothing special about them, but is good metal band whith social critic lyrics and an all black formation, no need to say that in this scene just the bad brains is an all black hardcore band, and a very good one too so... I highly recommend for all the people that are in to the HC scene to listen to body count.
