When this album first came out, I played it non-stop, and was convinced it was as good as “Born to Run”, Springsteen’s original tour-de-force album. I went to see him twice in concert that Summer, and one of my enduring memories is walking alongside the traffic in the streets afterwards, with the sound of a song from the “Born in the USA” album blaring out from every other car. That felt like I was really part of something. Playing the album today, when it starts with the anthemic “Born in the USA”, I no longer feel quite the same, mainly because that particular song is not one of my favourites. It’s good, but a ... The gritty voice of the man we can only remember as having dirty finger nails kicked Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ off the top slot and nestled his way into a very fashionable seat and stayed around in the album charts for an over familiar 129 weeks. All American arrogance played a over indulged part in the making of this album. Sitting on the top job at the time in the good old U. S of A, was the Spitting image household name of Ronald Reagan. America was flying high above the world’s cloud system and with The Boss at number one, the future couldn’t have looked more bright. For me, any music that evokes memories of my mid-80s school discos, is automatically beyond any criticism, and the title track from this album is no exception. Of course, one track doesn't make an album, but it can very often be the sole reason for purchasing it. I have often thought that Springsteen's lyrics were a little suspect, but very often these take second place to the power and emotion of the music and the mood he creates - and ... born in the usa was one of the biggest selling albums ever at the time of release and it lives up to the hype. with 7 hit singles and brucemania in full swing this propelled bruce into global stardom. recorded with the e street band this album plays more like a greatest hits album where any song would and could of been released as a hit from it as the music is so good. its recorded sand and played well , its as close to pop as bruce will probably ever get. and contains the hits dancing in the dark, born in the usa, im on fire, cover me, glory days etc, born in the usa ( the song ) is not about flag waving like many people are silly enough to ...
