      Very helpful

A top top album. Nuff said.

I first saw Blood Red Shoes at a small gig in Kingston. I'd heard 'ADHD' and 'You Bring Me Down' already and was dying to hear more. I wasn't disappointed. I knew from following the White Stripes that you can make a pretty good sound from a drum kit and guitar, but you have to be pretty damn talented to pull it off, and that they are. A kinda British White Stripes in reverse you have one very talented girl on guitar and a guy bashing the hell out a drum kit, that's it. They produce a sound twice as loud and with twice as much energy as a band with four, five, six members. The energy they showed on stage is captured on their debut recording Box of Secrets. 11 top rock tunes from one of the best new bands around. This album came out roughly the same time as the Tings Tings 'We Started Nothing' who overshadowed them as the new boy/girl combo. If you like the Tings Tings, but would rather something with a little more substance, try Blood Red Shoes. They won't disappoint.

Brilliant Debut by Laura-Mary and Simon

One of the best live bands in the UK, the release of the debut BRS album, "box of secrets", was hotly awaited. The album is almost flawless, with songs such as "ADHD" and "Its getting boring by the sea" standing out in a quality track list. Laura-Mary's vocals are, as always, flawless, and complimented perfectly by Simon Amsell's more laid back vocals and drumming skill.

Laura-Mary is an incredibly skilled guitarist, and this is clear to everyone in this album - it sounds as if there is more than just the one guitar throughout the album, and the depth she has created with her sole guitar is incredibly impressive.

Songs such as "I wish I was someone better" are masterpieces, and lyrically unstoppable. "I wish I was someone better"s lyrics stand out particularly as they are very easy to identify to, and could appeal to a large selection of people.

      Track Listing
      1. Doesn't Matter Much
      2. You Bring Me Down
      3. Try Harder
      4. Say Something, Say Anything
      5. I Wish I Was Someone Better
      6. Take The Weight
      7. ADHD
      8. This Is Not For You
      9. Its Getting Boring By The Sea
      10. Forgive Nothing
      11. Hope You Are Holding Up

The entire album has very few weak points, but I'm only going to talk about my favourites, so bear with me!

"I Wish I Was Someone Better" is a musical masterpiece. The heavy drumming at the beginning of the track makes way for magic on the guitar as Laura-Mary kicks off. Their voices work in harmony on the track, and sound fantastic over the instruments. The final part of the song, with Simon singing "I Wish I Was Someone Better" sounds amazing. Its incredibly emotive and such passionate music.

ADHD is the next song which I adore. The song never directly discusses its title, but instead chooses to make statements such as "I'm so distracted". This lyric actually comes from near the end of the track, where the song has been built up to the state where the guitar itself sounds frustrated, and Laura-Mary begins yelling above Simon's singing. This is one of my is one of my favourite pieces of music ever, its so intense.

Its Getting Boring By The Sea is a song which I feel I can relate to very well. The riff at the beginning of the song sounds fantastic, and the song is another very intense number. Laura-Mary dominates the vocals, and the song sounds incredibly raw and unique.

The album would appeal to anyone who likes bands such as Los Campesinos!, The Wombats, Lightspeed Champion, GoodBooks, and Operator Please.
