... song here, this is a good tune, the lyrics are funny, unfortunately portraying modern life, I think the female vocalist is Lady Sovereign and as always she prints her personality over her lyrics. Decent tune, the subjects depressing but this is life today. Brand New Day - Mad Oriental Beat over the top of this, I love the breakbeats on this album and these are incredibly inventive, the flow goes well again, Dizzee talking about people hating him and how his estate has changed, but the flow is positive and uplift...more

Premium Review Boy In Da Corner - Dizzee Rascal: Outstanding Debut (1068 words)
by - written on 22/04/09 (Very useful, 67 readings)
Rating:

Debut album from Dizzee Rascal, this brought something new and radical to both UK Hip Hop and Garage music, Dizzee is an MC who is willing to move so far outside the box that you don't know where the box is anymore. Lyrically he's intelligent, prepared to talk about the trials and tribulations of his life, but prepared to move far beyond that and comment on things way beyond this. Sittin Here - Talking about how things used to be, how life was easier, there was less trouble, less hassle, less stress and less police, the background sounds portray police sirens, gunshots and trouble while Dizzee talks about sitting down watching his world change around ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review The Godfather of Grime (1535 words)

Rating:

'Boy in Da Corner' is the 2003 ground breaking debut album from London rapper Dizzee Rascal. For those who don't know Dizzee he was quite a unique style, his music is a mix between rap, garage, and raga, a mix now known as grime, his use of samples is very random, and he does like to produce a lot of his own tracks. This album marked a change in the under ground UK music scene, with garage and rap music being the most notably effected, garage songs would suddenly go from mc's shouting a few lines to having full blown rap verses and chorus, while many struggling UK rappers found a new career direction moving away from the rap sounds they had grown up listening to, to the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Boy In Da Corner - Dizzee Rascal: Dizzee Boy Doin' It Big (1983 words)
by - written on 17/06/08 (Very useful, 96 readings)
Rating:

"Boy In Da Corner" was the 2003 debut album from the London rapper Dizzee Rascal. This album will soon be seen as a classic as it marked a change in the UK urban music seen as between 1998 and 2002, the dominant music sub-genre, was the Electronica-based style of Garage (which then broke down in to the two main categories of 2-Step and 4x4). At these times, the music was all dance music and focused on female vocals over a new-age Electronica beat, but as males began to dominate the scene with the likes of So Solid Crew, Heartless Crew, and the More Fire Crew, Garage then declined and became the UK equivalent to Gangsta rap in the US. A short time after the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review I luv u Dizzee Rascal (174 words)
by - written on 30/07/08 (Useful, 49 readings)
Rating:

Boy In da Corner - was the album released by Dizzee Rascal them 18 in 2003. When this album was released it was (and still is) that little bit different, it was distinct and edgy.I t has a very cool underground sound and vibe that is hard to immitate or replicate. This song really launched Dizzee Rascal and even though it wasnt the most commerical success, only songs like fix up look sharp and I luve u,really made an impact on the charts it was still a good selling album. The total album lenght is just shy of an hour, but this is an hour packed with tracks that are catchy, memorable and just fun to listen to, the tracks incorporate different elements and sounds ...  Read the complete review
