This is quite possibly one of my favorite albums, with tracks such as Behind These Hazel Eyes and Miss Independent it has a fair few of my favorite songs plus a few extras. Highlights: Beautiful Disaster (Live) - Anyone who has heard Kelly Clarkson live will know how amazing she sounds, for anyone who hasn't had the chance to hear Kelly live, this track is well worth a listen. You found me (Cover) - You found me is probably one of those songs that you should leave well alone unless you have an amazing voice that is well suited to the song, unsurprisingly Kelly's voice is more than suited to this song and sounds amazing. I hate myself for losing you - This is one of the songs on the album that i can easily listen to on repeat without getting fed up of it. It is quite a depressing song but really powerful and emotional which i'm sure quite a lot of people can relate to. Hear me: Another emotional song that i can listen to on repeat. Hear me starts off quite a slow/quiet song but picks up with an emotional, powerful, almost screaming (but well in tune) chorus. Low - Low never seemed to have been promoted that well in the UK (Released as a double A side with 'The trouble with love is') and only reached number 35 in the charts, so might not be so popular over here as it is in America and Australia . It is a shame that it was never promoted that well over here as it is a really good/powerful song about feeling let down. Gone - Gone is quite an edgy/funky song with really sharp/fast music, this mixed with Kelly's powerful vocals is the perfect recipe for a really good catchy song. As you've probably picked up from the rest of my review there seems to be a bit of an emotional/powerful theme going on with all the songs on the album being really powerful and emotional (I wouldn't expect anything less from Kelly) she certainly has put her own stamp on the album. If i was to describe this album I would describe it as powerful, emotional pop with an hint of rock. A lot of the tracks on this album were co-written by Kelly herself, this is perhaps the reason why it is such a powerful/ emotional album.
This CD 'Breakaway' by Kelly Clarkson is packed with attitude - Kelly sings romantic songs that have a melancholy feeling throughout, however Kelly has an attitude that shows in her music and hints at her being a strong woman with a lot of heart, attitude and emotion. All of the songs on this album 'Breakaway' are very dramatic, and show that Kelly has a very melodramatic personality at heart, however this kind of attitude creates powerful love songs from the talented Kelly Clarkson. 'Breakaway', 'Because Of You', 'Behind These Hazel Eyes', and 'Since U Been Gone' are the most well known singles from this album Breakaway released in 2005. However there are a couple of 'happy' songs on the album including 'Breakaway', which is about breaking away and reaching out into your dreams, an also 'Walk Away' which is about happily walking away from a relationship, so Kelly can show a positive and happier side of herself. 'Since U Been Gone' has a very rocky sound to it due to the heavy guitar playing especially in the chorus, and some of her other songs including 'Behind These Hazel Eyes' also have a rocky sound to them, so I would put this album in the Rock/Pop genre instead of just pop. This is a highly recommended album for anybody looking for a truly romantic and true CD with meaning.
I had this album when it first came out all the way back in 2004. At the time I wasn't particularly a Kelly Clarkson fan, preferring hip hop and RnB but somehow I ended up with this. I did like one of the songs on the album - Since U Been Gone so I listened to the album and surprisingly (for me) fell in love with it! ==Who is Kelly Clarkson?== Kelly Clarkson shot to fame after winning American Idol. This was her second album, after releasing Thankful after her win. Reviewers say that this album is aptly named because she was moving away from American Idol and the general music and instead making her own mark on the music industry. ==The Album== Breakaway - This is a relaxed but extremely strong opening to the album. It is a song reminiscing back to childhood and wishes and dreams. The tempo of the song is slower than a lot of songs on the album. I love this song because it works so well. The verses are sang quite quietly and effortlessly and the chorus shows off Kelly's talents as she holds notes and ranges her voice. I really like this song, it is very catchy and one that I cant help but sing along to. Definitely one of my favourites on the album. Favourite Lyric: "I'll spread my wings and I'll learn how to fly, I'll do what it takes til I touch the sky" 10/10 Since U Been Gone - I think personally that this was the song that really got Kelly noticed in the UK. Prior to this, her songs were popular, especially Miss Independent but this was a massive hit, it was always on the radio and it really grabbed people's attention. The song is fast paced and has a bit of a rock vibe to it. The lyrics refer to a break up - but not how upset she is - how relieved she is. It is such a feel good song and if I feel a bit rubbish and then hear this I feel 100% better after a little sing song - girl power!!! It has a very upbeat tempo and Kelly does an excellent job here of showing off her vocal skills. A well deserved, well known song. Favourite Lyric: "You had your chance, you blew it, out of sight, out of mind" 10/10 Behind These Hazel Eyes - Another very popular song that was released as a single. This song slows down a little and the beginning of it is very quiet and really helps to highlight Kelly's wonderful voice. As the song progresses it gradually picks up a more rocky beat. The lyrics refer to a break up where she has had her heart broken and now she's not quite sure what to do. Favourite Lyric: "Swallow me then spit me out, for hating you I blame myself" 9/10 Because of You - A beautiful song that it touching and inspirational. This song is a classic tearjerker and has a slow pace with quiet background music so that Kelly is able to really project her raw emotion into the song and hit the listeners hard. The song talks about being badly hurt in a relationship and how now she has had to make changes to her life in order to ensure it doesn't happen again. Favourite Lyric: "My heart cant possibly break when it wasn't even whole to start with" 10/10 Gone - We head back to the rock vibe now with Kelly promoting herself as the strong woman rather than the heartbroken girl we have seen in the last couple of songs. I really like this song and love the upbeat tempo, the lyrics talk about a relationship that simply isn't working anymore. Favourite Lyric: "Now all our memories, their haunted, we were always meant to say goodbye" 9/10 Addicted - This song begins with a very sad tone and when Kelly's voice begins over the piano it sounds very haunting and really grabs the attention of the listener. The song picks up pace a little for the chorus but keeps the morbid tone. The lyrics are referring to her being addicted to a man but her recognising that its not healthy and that shes not herself anymore. Favourite Lyric: "It's like you're a leech, sucking the life from me" 9/10 Where is your heart? - This is a slow song which follows on nicely from the previous song. The lyrics are about Kelly wanting her boyfriend to show some sort of emotion because she really doesn't understand how he feels. Its quite a touching song and one that I'm sure many can relate to. Favourite Lyric: "I want your heart to bleed, that's all I'm asking for" 8/10 Walk Away - An upbeat tempo accompanies lyrics filled with attitude for this song. Kelly's voice is accompanied by an electric guitar but it isn't a particularly rocky song. I really like the tune of this song though and its very fun. The song is about a man not knowing whether to stay with her or leave her and his family also putting their eggs in the basket! Favourite Lyric: "I want a man by my side, not a boy who runs and hides" 10/10 You Found Me - This is a song about how when she was in a low place and nobody else seemed to be helping, someone found her and helped. Its got a good tune to this song and I would say that this was one of the more pop like songs on the album. Its got quite a fun tempo and it's a good one to sing along to. Favourite Lyric: "Please don't wake me from this high, I've been comfortably numb" 8/10 I hate myself for losing you - This song takes on a rock vibe and is also quite pop like at the same time. The lyrics describe how stupid she feels after losing someone she cared for because she thinks it was all her fault why he left. This song seems as though Kelly is really beating herself up about something so not a great one to listen to if you are feeling a bit down about yourself! Favourite Lyric: "What do you do when you look in the mirror, and staring at you is why he's not here?" 8/10 Hear Me - This song is about Kelly being desperate for someone to come back into her life and find her because she cannot carry on alone. This is a good song but for me, its probably the least memorable on the album. It is strong and has a good tune but I just feel that in comparison to the rest of the album it is ever so slightly weaker. Favourite Lyric: "And I'm hoping my dreams, bring you close to me, are you listening?" 7/10 Beautiful Disaster (Live) - One of Kelly's most well known songs. This is recorded live from a concert so it really helps to showcase how great Kelly is both on and off stage. The lyrics talk about Kelly being desperate to help somebody when they are struggling with life. Favourite Lyric: "But he's so beautiful, such a beautiful disaster" 8/10 ==Opinion== As I'm sure you can tell from my review I absolutely love this album and I feel as though its one of those albums that I know inside out and will forever be able to pick up and be transported straight back to when I was listening to it every day. I listened to it this morning for the first time in quite a while but I knew all the words, the lengths of pauses etc. It's one of those albums that you will never forget. On first listen, some may feel that the songs are quite similar with their vibe but they are all extremely individual, tackling different issues and also sounding very different. It's one of those albums that you can just listen to all the way through. I'm a nightmare for skipping to my favourite then skipping back to something else, but this is one where honestly, I rarely skip anything because its all strong material and I enjoy it all. I have been known to skip back to Since U Been Gone a few times just to have a bit of a 'I can conquer the world!' moment. The lyrics on this album all fit with the songs wonderfully and there are some wonderful lyrics which provide both emotion and humour. This album is thought provoking and relevant to the vast majority of the population. I feel as though the whole album is really strong. As I said, if I had to pick one song that I feel is slightly weaker than the rest it would be Hear Me but this is most certainly not a weak or even middle of the road song. The album contains no fillers whatsoever and its obvious that a lot of time, effort and love went into this album to produce Kelly's signature sound. ==Summary== If you are considering this album now, it can be downloaded from Amazon for £4.49 which I think is an exceptional price for an album that is likely to provide hours upon hours of entertainment. If you're unsure, it can be heard on Spotify for free. The album was released in November 2004 but I don't think it is at all dated or now irrelevant. Total runtime of the album is 44 minutes 37 seconds. In my opinion, this is a fantastic album and definitely is one that I will return to time and time again. There are absolutely no fillers on this album and it is a fun album which highlights Kelly Clarkson's fabulous voice very well.
Kelly Clarkson - Breakaway I bought this album a few years ago after watching American Idol and being impressed with Kelly herself. The album is a pop/ rock album and it's similar to other albums by female artists. However, Kelly manages to add a personal touch to the album with stories about her childhood and failed relationships. As far as I know Kelly co-wrote some of the songs on the album and she's done a good job. A few of the songs were already familiar to me as I had heard them on music channels, especially Since U Been Gone which got a lot of airplay around the time of it's release. This is a very angry sounding song full of angst and emotion. It's about a failed relationship and Kelly singing about how much better she feels now they have gone. It's a great pop/ rock song that I love listening to and it still sounds fresh and funky years on. Behind These Hazel Eyes sounds quite similar to Since U Been Gone as it follows the same theme. I do like the song though and Kelly adds a personal touch to the song. She really does sing it like she means it, which is always a good thing for an artist to do. I also love Breakaway which is another fresh sounding pop song that sounds bright and breezy and Kelly's vocals are gorgeous on this. The song is very inspiring and uplifting and it always cheers me up when I hear it. The album contains a mixture of both upbeat songs and slower songs which are the ballads. The ballads are just as good as the upbeat numbers but the ballad that stands out to me the most HAS to be Because Of You. The song is quite sad but it's nice to listen to and this is the song that makes you wanna stand up and say "This girl CAN sing", this is the reason why she won American Idol! Overall this is a very impressive album. If you like artists such as Avril Lavigne and Michelle Branch I think you will like this too.
From being that small town girl to "Idol" pop sensation and a 6 album record deal this kid has done great for herself. I watch that telecast with her and Reba, even though she struggled a little she held her immature vocal chords to the Diva of Country.Breakaway is a smooth opening song letting you in on her past, letting you know from now on she's going forward. Her voice is evenly toned through this song and the background music has some uplifting characteristics to it. Since U been gone, is charging enthusiastic song how she slowly finding out she was the only one in love in this relationship. So glad that you left, she gets what she wants and you're not it. How she wanted it happen, but you messed up dude !! Good backgrounds, guitars are in sync well balanced. My favorite song on this album Behind These Hazel Eyes, but vice versa. excuse me---turning it full blast.!!! How you dedicate your world to someone and giving your prize possession your heart to fake person. Swallow me and spit me out, what my ex-wife did when I started getting sicker. She had to find her a healthy man after ten years. She promised me forever, most stabilized part of my life to crash and burn like the Chicago Fire. Living now, just hanging on tore up into pieces..I don't cry on the outside anymore. She did her own backgrounds on the album and when she hits those high notes I feel it, I feel the adrenaline of wasting those god forsaken years. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yipoOY56MbM&ob=av3e Because of you is a wonderful harmonic strong ballet of her being portrayed in the video as to trying not to let her daughter down or the family."Because of you I never strayed to far from the sidewalk" Listening it on the cd you here the realism in her voice like she's been down that street before and never going to compromise it again. Watching her father leave and stone cold frighten on the curb.Great master strokes from the pianist. The deepness of her vocal cords she can muster that husky sternness that brings a song like this out. Then pitching into the high sharp crisp mind bogging tennoristic (just made this word up) chorus just brings your own heart into the music as if it has touched you for the first time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ra-Om7UMSJc&NR=1 For the most part of this album is a attitude forming, fighting, leaving your partner and Gone is apart of it. More bounce to it . The background shadows of her mix vocals scream at you. Addicted is about a brainwashed girl that gave everything to her lover. She eats, works, lives and sleeps just for him. Total dedication of her love and it's so powerful that it takes her breath away. The background music sounds of controlling domination breathing the funneling fires of lust and love. Again when she blends her voices together, it utters nothing but harmony specially if one is her husky baritone and the other is her passive feminist forte` of submitting her heart. I hate myself for losing you, How we all have let that one go. The one that you look in the mirror and literally cussed yourself out. How we regret everyday and shake our heads saying how stupid we were. I like the tempo of this song with the bleed into Hear me praying to the skies that there has to be that one person, that one love. The one your world will always be sunny and romantic as your hearts beat as one...Can you Hear Me ? 1. Breakaway 2. Since U Been Gone 3.Behind These Hazel Eyes 4. Because Of You 5. Gone 6.Addicted 7.Where is Your Heart 8. Walk Away 9. You Found Me 10. I Hate Myself For Losing You 11. Hear Me 12. Beautiful Disaster: Live Overall, I shared too much emotion with you. This album came out in 2004 just as I was seperating from my wife and every chance I got I throw this in and tried my best thinking that tomorrow all of this would be better. It's not, you still have to carry on, if you been with that person 5 minutes or 50 years. The emotions she flares out when she sings is why I have her music in my library. Call me emo, just don't call me late for dinner. Thanks for reading !!!
She might be a manufactured pop star having been successful on American Idol but Kelly Clarkson can belt out a tune and she certainly has survived far better than other winners of such shows and this 2005 release of hers which was her second album release is a pretty good effort. Breakaway has a rock feel to it and was co written with Canadian rock chick Avril Lavine and it is a nice opener to the album and signifies that she will not solely be relying on the balads on this album. My favourite song on the album is Because of You as it has some really powerful vocals and was a song she wrote when she was 16 and you can feel the teenage emotions raging in those lyrics. There are a couple of uptempo pop songs as well on the album, the track entitled Gone is probably the best of them and is a more impressive effort than the rather weak Addicted which has a clumsy feel to it in the way the song is constructed. There are a couple of weak tracks on the album, I hate myself for losing you is one such track in particular and I really do not like the intro on this track, it just does not work for me. Overall there are more good tracks on the album than there are weak ones and for that reason I would recommend it as being worth a listen or three. Track List Breakaway Since U Been Gone Behind These Hazel Eyes Because Of You Gone Addicted Where Is Your Heart Walk Away You Found Me I Hate Myself For Losing You Hear Me Beautiful Disaster
Now I liked Miss Independent when it first came out, but never bothered to seek out any of Kelly's music. Until Breakaway. This was the first Kelly Clarkson album I bought, basically on the strength of the singles, especially Since U Been Gone and Because of You. Since then I have listened to it constantly. Track Listing 1. Breakaway 2. Since U Been Gone 3. Behind These Hazel Eyes 4. Because Of You 5. Gone 6. Addicted 7. Where Is Your Heart 8. Walk Away 9. You Found Me 10. I Hate Myself For Losing You 11. Hear Me 12. Beautiful Disaster (Live) Bonus Track Breakaway, which opens the album, is a relaxing, uplifting song about living your dreams. You can imagine sitting under the palm trees mentioned in the song, hearing the waves crash on the shore! This is a really lovely song, but it is absolutely nothing like the rest of the album. The tone of the CD is really set by the second track, Since U Been Gone. This was my favourite single released from the album, a really strong, rock track that is fantastic to bound around the house to. Behind These Hazel Eyes is less positive and more angry, but it still has the rock vibe that runs through the whole album. Because of You is another of my favourite tracks. What I love about it is that if you judge by the title and the melody, you think it's going to be a soppy love song, but when you actually listen to the lyrics, it's nothing like that at all, but really angry, bitter and emotional. It's a great song to listen to when you're upset. Those first four songs were the singles. I had no idea what the rest of the album was going to be like but after listening to it I can honestly say that any track from it could have been released as a single! They are all such strong, well sung tracks. My favourites are Addicted, about loving someone who is bad for you; Where Is Your Heart; and I Hate Myself for Losing You. Another highlight is closing track Beautiful Disaster, which is sung live (the original, which I haven't heard, is on Kelly's debut album Thankful). This song shows just how amazing Kelly's voice is and totally explains why she won American Idol! There are very few albums that I can listen to all the way through, skipping nothing, but this is one of them. The only song I ever skip is the first song, Breakaway - not because it's a bad song, but it is so different to the rest of the album, and I'm not always in the mood to listen to it. I've just ordered another two Kelly Clarkson albums, Thankful and My December, from Amazon. Judging by reviews they are both very different, to each other and to Breakaway - but I'm excited about finding out what they're like for myself!
Kelly Clarkson has enjoyed success over the past couple of years since she launched herself into our musical lives on American Idol. Breakaway, her second album, features a number of singles as well as album fillers, and is a solid start to a promising career, attempting to break free from the shackles of Idol. It's not perfect, and there isn't a great deal of variation to it, but each song is easy to listen to. The album starts off with a number of the singles, instantly recognisable to followers of the charts a few years ago. Breakaway has a clever combination of soothing and relaxing chords, with the heavier Since You've Been Gone following on suit. It's catchy, but I wasn't really a fan of this as a single. To round the first three off, Behind These Hazel Eyes has a combination of the two, switching the soft with the heavy, before my favourite track of the album, Because Of You, comes in. This has very powerful vocals and lyrics, and the emotion is felt coming through in the music. The remainder of the album, while enjoyable to listen to, doesn't really do anything special. Addicted is nice and soothing, and there is a nice combination of the slow and the fast as we progress through to the end. However, there is nothing special. It's all very 'safe' in many ways. Clarkson's vocals match heavy guitar riffs and emotional lyrics very well, and these are exactly what we get all the way through. It does have a very generic feel to it, a very simple and safe commercial appeal, which as a first 'on your own' dig isn't a bad idea. Her more recent albums have been a bit more adventurous, with Kelly having more and more of a hand in the writing of the music. This does have the disadvantage of not being quite so commercial, but I personally think it makes elements better than Breakaway. This is an enjoyable album to listen to, but you'd be forgiven for not recognising one song from the other unless you put it on loop time after time. There is the mix of slow and fast, but it's all in the same vein of guitar and vocals, pushing her strong rock chick voice throughout its tracks. Walk Away and You Found Me are two interesting tracks, enjoyable at the time, but again, instantly forgettable in many ways. I Liked the bonus element of having a live track, Beautiful Disaster, added in, and a good cover of Miss Independent, although again, nothing particularly special. The problem with having such a routine album, good as it is, is that although there is nothing fundamentally wrong, it doesn't do anything special for me. Sure, there are some great tracks on here, but perhaps the only one I feel moved by, that I believe the lyrics to, is Because Of You. It has more emotion, and less commercial cheese, and I like the crescendo elements of the chorus. Other than that, it's a good album, but nothing special for me. Well worth listening to more than once, but not particularly challenging. 1 Breakaway 2 Since U Been Gone 3 Behind These Hazel Eyes 4 Because Of You 5 Gone 6 Addicted 7 Where Is Your Heart 8 Walk Away 9 You Found Me 10 I Hate Myself For Losing You 11 Hear Me 12 Beautiful Disaster (Live) Bonus Tracks 13 Miss Independent 14 Low
This is by far my favourite Kelly Clarkson album. I have every every album by her so far. Her first album, just after winning American Idol back in 2002 didnt really do a lot for me, a bit too cheesy and 'pop' for my liking. I guess she didnt really have a big say in what she recorded back then. Good news is, her style seems to have changed. Now more toward a pop/rock kinda sound i find im really liking her again. Choice of genre was a little bit of a shock to some listeners, thinking she'd stick to the safe ballad route but good on her for going for something different. It was really nice listening to Kelly's voice develop and grow into what became 'Breakaway'. Track List 1. Breakaway 2. Since U been gone 3. Behind these hazel eyes 4. Because of you 5. Gone 6. Addicted 7. Where is your heart 8. Walk away 9. You found me 10. I hate myself for losing you 11. Hear me 12. Beautiful Disaster My Favourites: Since you been gone - This is a fabulous upbeat song about a girl feeling releaved since her relationship ended. Although it's not generally a song for clubs i often hear it remixed and it ends up being a great song to dance with the girls to. Beautiful Disaster - This is such a beautiful song and Kelly shows a lot of emotion in her voice. Although i really liked the more upbeat songs on the album, the ballads are just that bit more amazing. The song is about a girl who's in love but thinks even though he is so wonderful, he's going to end up ruining everything. I also have a live version of this song and i'd recommend it over the album version, although the album did get re released with the live version on it. Theres something for everyone on this album. Some slushy songs and some really good lively songs that get you singing and dancing along to them. All of the songs on the album are generally to do with relationships and heartbreak but as quite a lot of songs are up tempo it isnt as depressing as it seems. Give Kelly a try and u wont be dissapointed with this album!
This album just summed up my college days. every track on it was one you could sing along too, and after kelly's debut offering, was slightly unexpected. throughout the album is great vocals, catchy riffs and memorable choruses. track by track: breakaway - the first official single from this album - great chorus, bit cheesey but good to sing along to. *** since u been gone - THAT song, possibly one of the greatest pop songs of recent times. perfect electro rock beats, great angst driven lyric, perfect sing a long chorus. ***** behind these hazel eyes - my album favourite. admittedly better live than on the recording, a modern day power ballad. ***** because of you - love the lyric, the heart breaking delivery of the words, perfect ballad. never gets old ***** gone - an upbeat rock song, its good , but not the same calibre as the last three. *** addicted - slight evanescence feel to this one, a bit darker, a great pop rock song with some dark lyrics and a powerhouse vocal **** where is your heart - a slower one, a bit of an acoustic feel. corny lyrics *** walk away - a great single choice, very american sounding though. upbeat rock song *** you found me - my least favourite on the album, a bit mediocre in comparison to the rest on offer. ** i hate myself for losing you - a guitar driven rock song, sort of a sign of things to come from my december.... *** hear me - again another filler, its by no means bad, but would have suited someone else better. ** beautiful disaster live - kellys strength lies in her live vocals, an excellent take on a rubbish song from her debut. *****
This album is one of my favourite albums by far. The songs are extremely catchy and powerful and what is best about them is that you can really relate to the feelings and the emotions that Kelly Clarkson sings about. The powerful songs are however a little bit more biased towards negativity as there is not so much good feeling in the album, however this does not stop this album from being a musical masterpiece. From a female perspective this album is great for any one suffering from a break up. Since you've been gone being the most popularly played song on the album is a great heartfelt number which always has me bouncing around singing into my hairbrush style microphone. Miss independent is also featured on this album, and was Kelly Clarkson's first single realised, not as powerful as most of her songs but still a great tune, after this one song Kelly found her more rock star image and became possibly the greatest female voice in music.
It was in the Summer of 2005 that I first heard the song 'Since You've Been Gone' and it was immediately that I fell in love with it! This was the first time I had heard of Kelly Clarkson , and I decided there and then that I would have to get this album. So there and then I ordered ' Breakaway' , Kelly's latest album at the time, from Play.com for a price of £8.99. * Kelly Clarkson * Kelly Brianne Clarkson was born on April 24th 1982 in Texas. In 2002 , Kelly auditioned for American Idol ( the American version of Britain's Pop Idol). Kelly won the 2002 American Idol , and since that moment she has been a huge success. Her singles to date have included : A Moment Like This (the same song Leona Lewis sang) / Before your love , Miss Independent , Low , The Trouble With Love Is , Breakaway , Since you've Been Gone , Behind These Hazel Eyes , Because Of You , Walk Away , Never Again , Sober , One Minute , and Don't Waste Your Time. Kelly has had three albums to date ; Thankful , Breakaway and My December. Breakway is the second album. The album comes under the pop/rock genre. Kelly definitely has her own style that is individual and original and I think that is the reason why she is so successful. It was released in 2004 and contains the following songs : 1.Breakaway 2.Since You've Been Gone 3.Behind These Hazel Eyes 4.Because Of You 5.Gone 6.Addicted 7.Where Is Your Heart 8.Walk Away 9.You Found Me 10.I Hate Myself For Losing You 11.Hear Me 12.Beautiful Disaster Bonus Tracks : 13.Miss Independent 14.Low When I first heard the album , I was amazed by the fact that it has some really good songs on it. It is one of them albums that has you liking every song. * Since You've Been Gone * This is a great party song that is bound to get the party started. It has a strong beat which will get everyone up and dancing. Kelly's vocals are strong and I like how she 'acts' out the song with her tone of voice. This is one of my favourite songs off the album. * Because Of You * This is a ballad-with-a-beat kind of song. It is a beautiful song. The song begins with Kelly singing along to a piano. This is quite a sad song , and Kelly performs it really well. As the song goes on it has a strong beat and is more upbeat than the first half of the song. I actually performed this song in one of my concerts , and I loved performing it as there are so many emotions to be felt with this song. * Breakaway * I like this song because it shows how down to earth Kelly is. This song is about the background Kelly came from and how that now she is this famous pop star , she won't let it go to head , and that she will always stay true to her roots. This song has character , and as Kelly sings it you can really picture what is happening in your mind. * Behind These Hazel Eyes * This song has a similar style to Breakaway with quiet parts as well as 'Shouty' bits. It's a great song if your feeling down or stressed as it has a positive feel to it. I Strongly recommend you buy this album. You will not be disappointed at all. Her style is so individual you will love it. The songs are about everyday things and therefore there is something that everyone can relate to. I give this album a 9/10 Thanks For Reading!
This is the second album from Kelly Clarkson (the first ever American Idol winner), and her first album to really take off in the UK. I bought this album several years ago, and it is still one of the most played albums on my iPod. 1. Breakaway The album's title track was never officially released as a single in the UK, but it is one of my favourite tracks. Lyrically, it describes leaving behind your home town but never forgetting it and the people who live there. It is a mid-tempo song which isn't as rocky as most of Kelly's single releases. As it is more laid-back, you can really hear and feel the emotion in the lyrics. 2. Since You Been Gone This is probably one of the most recognisable tracks from the album, as it was one of the single releases and got a lot of radio airplay. It is classic pop-rock with some pretty angry lyrics that are obviously directed at an ex-love who is no longer around to hold her back. For me, this is the type of track Kelly does best. 3. Behind These Hazel Eyes This was another of the UK single releases, although this track didn't get quite as much airplay as "Since You've Been Gone". While I would still class it as a pop-rock track, it is different to "Since You've Been Gone", although the same angst can be heard in the lyrics and the chorus in both songs is quite similar. 4. Because Of You This was the third single release from the albim in the UK, and it showed a different side to Kelly's vocals. This is an emotional ballad that demonstrates both her powerful voice and the emotion within it. It is a refreshing change from the two tracks that come before it on the tracklisting. 5. Gone The tempo of this track is quite staccato and it moves the album back into pop-rock territory again. It is an upbeat track but I do feel that it has a bit of a different sound to "Since You've Been Gone" and "Behind These Hazel Eyes" and isn't just a slightly different reworking of these. 6. Addicted This track slows things back down again a bit as it is quite an emotional ballad during the verses. However, the chorus is more rocky and has pretty heavy guitar backing. 7. Where Is Your Heart This is quite a slow and heartfelt track that demonstrates Kelly's vocals and the emotion in her voice. Although it is a nice song, it is one of the tracks that I tend to skip as I prefer Kelly at her rocky best. 8. Walk Away This track is actually more upbeat in the verses than during the chorus, which is quite different from most of Kelly's more pop-rock tracks on this album. 9. You Found Me From the slow opening verse, this track sounds as though it will be another ballad, but it starts to kick in during the chorus and becomes more rocky. 10. I Hate Myself For Losing You The song title hints at a ballad, but this is actually quite a rocky track that is mid-tempo in the verses and a bit more up-tempo in the chorus. Although I usually like Kelly singing these kind of rocky tracks, I'm not a big fan of this track and will probably skip past it more often than not. 11. Hear Me This is another of the album's slower tracks. Unlike some of the less upbeat tracks on the album, it doesn't really kick in during the chorus so it is more of a traditional ballad. 12. Beautiful Disaster (Live) This is one of my favourite tracks on the album. As it was recorded live, it is a perfect showcase of Kelly's voice. I love the tone of her voice on this song and the heartfelt lyrics. My copy of the album doesn't actually have these tracks on it, but I am going to review them anyway (after finding the second bonus track on Youtube) for those whose copy does have them. 13. Miss Independent (Bonus Track) In the UK, this was the first track that really brought Kelly into the spotlight, and it is still one of my favourite tracks of hers overall. It is quite upbeat and more than a bit pop-rocky until nearer the end of the track, when it slows down a little and Kelly displays the higher range of her voice for a verse. This is a nice touch as it breaks the edginess of the song. 14. Low (Bonus Track) This track is what I would call mid-tempo. It is quite an emotional track, but not in the same way as some of the other slow(er) tracks on the album. I really like this, and am disappointed that my copy didn't have this as a bonus track as I prefer it to some of the other tracks! Overall, I would recommend this album as it is full of good songs. If you liked "Since You Been Gone" and "Behind These Hazel Eyes", there are some similar songs such as "Gone" and "Walk Away". There is also a nice mixture between the up-tempo tracks and the slightly slower tracks. Lyrically, it is a good album for anyone who has experienced some recent heartbreak as many of the tracks address this or are based around it.
Kelly's second album, and you can see her beginning to pull away from the image she was given after being crowned winner of American Idol, two years earlier. This album is better than her first, combining radio-friendly pop with songs that are a little deeper and darker than anything we would expect from Kelly; the epitome of the fresh faced, all American girl next door. Breakaway, famously written in part by Avril Lavigne, was used in Princess Diaries 2. So far, so typical. But Kelly's brand of angry rock was beginning to emerge - who could forget "Since you've been gone," a good riddance song to an errant boyfriend, accompanied by an apartment trashing video? Woe betide the next person to underestimate this young woman. For someone who always appears to be cheerful and good natured, Kelly Clarkson writes an awful lot of sad songs. Behind these hazel eyes, Because of you, Where is your heart - it seems that Kelly has had her heart broken in more ways than one. Anyone who has found themselves unable to leave a bad relationship will recognise themselves in Addicted. And when was the last time you heard a young female singer admit that "I hate myself for losing you"? So many singers seem afraid to sing from the heart and expose their innermost thoughts - Kelly seems to have no choice but to express herself through songwriting. As well as this willingness to bare her soul, she sings with so much emotion that you always feel she is genuinely connected with the lyrics. "Hear me" and the stunning "Beautiful disaster" are never played on the radio, but they are incredible. I have no idea why Kelly is less well known or popular than the likes of Avril, Pink, and the like. But do yourself a favour and give this album a chance. Kelly Clarkson = awesome.
