Now I liked Miss Independent when it first came out, but never bothered to seek out any of Kelly's music. Until Breakaway. This was the first Kelly Clarkson album I bought, basically on the strength of the singles, especially Since U Been Gone and Because of You. Since then I have listened to it constantly.

Breakaway, which opens the album, is a relaxing, uplifting song about living your dreams. You can imagine sitting under the palm trees mentioned in the song, hearing the waves crash on the shore! This is a really lovely song, but it is absolutely nothing like the rest of the album.

The tone of the CD is really set by the second track, Since U Been Gone. This was my favourite single released from the album, a really strong, rock track that is fantastic to bound around the house to. Behind These Hazel Eyes is less positive and more angry, but it still has the rock vibe that runs through the whole album.

Because of You is another of my favourite tracks. What I love about it is that if you judge by the title and the melody, you think it's going to be a soppy love song, but when you actually listen to the lyrics, it's nothing like that at all, but really angry, bitter and emotional. It's a great song to listen to when you're upset.

Those first four songs were the singles. I had no idea what the rest of the album was going to be like but after listening to it I can honestly say that any track from it could have been released as a single! They are all such strong, well sung tracks. My favourites are Addicted, about loving someone who is bad for you; Where Is Your Heart; and I Hate Myself for Losing You. Another highlight is closing track Beautiful Disaster, which is sung live (the original, which I haven't heard, is on Kelly's debut album Thankful). This song shows just how amazing Kelly's voice is and totally explains why she won American Idol!

There are very few albums that I can listen to all the way through, skipping nothing, but this is one of them. The only song I ever skip is the first song, Breakaway - not because it's a bad song, but it is so different to the rest of the album, and I'm not always in the mood to listen to it.

I've just ordered another two Kelly Clarkson albums, Thankful and My December, from Amazon. Judging by reviews they are both very different, to each other and to Breakaway - but I'm excited about finding out what they're like for myself!
