... backing to start with, but there is also a good hint of a backing track too later on which stops it sounding acoustic. This is a bit of a shame as I think that Lucie's voice lends itself well to acoustic tracks, especially as she is a singer-songwriter. ***Last Man Standing*** This is one of my favourite tracks on the album. It is a slow track verging on ballad territory with the lyrics. The backing is piano-esque but I don't think that is an actual piano as such as it sounds more like a piano-based backing track....more

Premium Review Breathe In - Lucie Silvas: Great album from an underrated singer-songwriter (646 words)
by - written on 20/05/09 (Very useful, 15 readings)
Rating:

This is one of the most played albums on my iPod at the moment, although I don't like all of the songs. For those of you who are not familiar with Lucie (she hasn't had many big hits in the UK and seems to be more popular in Europe), she is a bit similar to Delta Goodrem in that a lot of her songs are piano-based. She is a singer-songwriter and has a nice range to her voice that I really enjoy listening to. In this review, I'm going to pick out my favourite tracks from this album rather than go through each of them one by one. ***Don't Look Back*** This is a mid-tempo track for the most part, although the verses are slightly slower than the chorus. I remember discovering Lucie Silvas very well. It was back in 2004 when the video to her debut single 'What You're Made Of' caught my eye. Instantly drawing comparisions to Delta Goodrem [who I am a huge fan of], due to the piano led melodies of her songs and her squeaky clean image, she seemed like a new musical obsession just waiting to be snatched up by me. 'Breathe In' was her breakthrough record selling over 300,000 copies in the UK despite peaking no higher than no11. Whilst her career seems to have hit a tumbleweed fueled desert since the release of this record, 'Breathe In' remains a classic full of easy to listen to ballads that all plod along quite nicely ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review Breathe In - Lucie Silvas: As Necessary as Breathing (1366 words)
by - written on 12/09/07 (Very useful, 162 readings)
Rating:

With all the furore about when the European Union have too much control over the United Kingdom’s laws and products, it’s always a shame when the Europeans spot something really great that belongs to us, but they get to enjoy it as we don’t want it any more and have thrown it out. Lucie Silvas is one such thing; there’s no reason why the British shouldn’t like her music, having embraced the likes of Delta Goodrem and having voted en masse for Leona Lewis to win the last series of “The X Factor”, but we’ve let her go. Her official debut album is the perfect indication of this. Released in 2004, “Breathe In” produced two Top 10 singles and became a Top 20 ...  Read the complete review

Loads of Great Songs Some rubbish ones

Unusual and insightful blend of trance and psychedelic rock. Heavy reliance on borrowed ideas, and the entire second half is a waste of time.

Psychedelic Rock - 2007

"Climbing the Walls" and "The Mesopotamians" are sublime; bonus disc w/ first pressing A few poorer tracks; album proper is only 38 mins long

Generally superb music - several career highlights Confusing number of ways to buy; couple of dodgy tracks

On the whole it's really good Few tracks are only average
