In hindsight 1995's Voodoo Lounge wasn't quite the all out comeback return to form we were led to believe. Sure it was nice to hear Charlie Watts delivered from the curse of cack handed 80's producers, it was nice to hear the Richards and Wood twin guitar raw and devoid of any brass instrumentation, and it was nice to hear Jagger and Richards deliver some strong material but there was something missing. The Stones have always been at there best when they are daring, yes that old trend follower Jagger is the key ingredient for this to take place. Although not one of the classic rolling stones albums this release helps to dispel any notions that the band is just a group of ageing rock stars trying to fit in with modern times.The album contains all new tracks and has a very modern sound while at the same time not losing the trademark stones guitar chops and instrumentation.Keith Richards even puts in a vocal performance on theif in the night.Whether or not you think the stones are past their best this album is a necessity either for completing your stones cd collection or because you consider it a great album.It shows that the stones have not lost their ability to churn out high quality songs ... Had this album being released by a modern band it would probably had praise upon it, but it is by what must be described as the ultimate rock 'n' band, a band who during the 1906's and 1970's released a string of classic and never beaten albums. Comparing this album with their past seems almost unfiar but in reality it does get done. Perhaps it does not match those classic albums, but what does? Bridges to Babylon is in fact an excllent album, that pushs the Stones qualities back to the fore, it sounds confident and it rocks, perhaps the rawness is still slightly missing, perhaps there is still a little to much production, but ...
