The movie, The Edge of Reason, based on the book by Helen Fielding came out in 2004. It's a good movie but in my opinion not really a classic although it does have some funny elements. However, some of my favourite parts of the movie were actually the music used in it and as such I decided to buy the soundtrack after it came out. I love movie soundtrakcs becasue they feature a number of different artists so you get a wide variety of different sounds which is great. Plus, this album includes some of the best artists in the world. Also, whenever I listen to it it always reminds me of different parts in the movie which I like. The album was released on November 19th 2004 on Geffen records and was produced by Nick Angel. The front cover features the same photo of the DVD, a picture of Bridget in the middle with Daniel on one side and Mark on the other.
According to an article I read, Uncut magazine gave the album three stars out of five stars, saying that "Its quality control is close to impeccable." Allmusic called it "a generally enjoyable, if slick, musical counterpart to the film's frothy romantic shenanigans. THe album includes the following songs.
Will Young - "Your Love Is King"
Jamelia - "Stop"
Kylie Minogue - "Can't Get You out of My Head"
Joss Stone - "Super Duper Love (Are You Diggin' on Me?) Pt. 1"
Mary J. Blige - "Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word"
Robbie Williams - "Misunderstood"
Love Affair - "Everlasting Love" (NB: Jamie Cullum's version appears on the CD)
Barry White - "You're the First, the Last, My Everything"
Beyoncé Knowles featuring Jay Z - "Crazy in Love"
Rufus Wainwright featuring Dido - "I Eat Dinner"
10cc - "I'm Not in Love"
Carly Simon - "Nobody Does It Better"
Primal Scream - "Loaded"
The Darkness - "I Believe in a Thing Called Love"
Amy Winehouse - "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?"
Minnie Riperton - "Lovin' You"
Aretha Franklin - "Think"
Leona Naess - "Calling"
Sting & Annie Lennox - "We'll Be Together"
Harry Gregson-Williams - "Bridget's Theme"
A couple of days ago I watched the movie Bridget Jones The Edge of Reason with a friend and the first comment we both made after the film had ended was Wow the music was great!. And since two of the hottest guys ever, Colin Firth and Hugh Grant, were in the film, the fact that we noticed the music says quite a lot about it. Therefore I immediately went out and bought the soundtrack the next morning (Im not a fan of downloading music) and Ive listened to it numerous times since then.
When you buy this CD you get quite a mixed bag of music
1. Your Love Is King - Young, Will
2. Stop - Jamelia
3. Can't Get You Out Of My Head - Minogue, Kylie
4. Super Duper Love (Are You Diggin' On Me) - Stone, Joss
5. Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word - Blige, Mary J.
6. Misunderstood - Williams, Robbie
7. Everlasting Love - Cullum, Jamie
8. You're The First The Last My Everything - White, Barry
9. Crazy In Love - Beyonce & Jay Z
10. I Eat Dinner (When The Hunger's Gone) - Wainwright, Rufus & Dido
11. I'm Not In Love - 10cc
12. Nobody Does It Better - Simon, Carly
13. Loaded - Primal Scream
14. Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow - Winehouse, Amy
15. Lovin' You - Riperton, Minnie
16. Calling - Naess, Leona
17. We'll Be Together - Sting & Annie Lennox
18. Bridget's Theme - Gregson-Williams, Harry
I cannot say that I love all the songs but surprisingly many. I think that Jamelias version of Stop is absolutely fantastic. It has always been one of my favourite songs and if anyone had told me that I would like Jamelias version before Id heard it I would have said no way, however I would have been wrong! I actually prefer this version to Sam Browns now.
Being a Robbie fan I have to say that I love Misunderstood. Such is the law. However it is actually a good song even if hes done better ones. And one song that I first thought was rather odd has actually become one of my favourites I Eat Dinner (When the Hunger is Gone). The lyrics are slightly unusual, for instance the song begins
I eat dinner at the kitchen table
By the light that switches on
I eat leftovers with mashed potatoes
No more candlelight
No more romance
However the lyrics too make more and more sense the more you listen to them. And the melody is beautiful.
All in all there is music for every occasion on this CD. If youre in a party mood you got Kylie, Barry and Beyonce to keep you company; if you feel like relaxing you can lie down on your sofa with Jamelia, Robbie and Jamie and when nostalgia hits you can sing along to a couple of classics by Barry and Carly. Um. Im trying to figure out when you would listen to 10cc but that song is just too weird
