Orson are an American band formed in 1999. They went through a couple of name changes before naming themselves 'Orson' after a sandwich, which is in turn named after Orson Welles. They are a no-holds-barred band who are not afraid of their own beliefs when it comes to music. Their style is rock, but in a poppy kind of format, which means that their music appeals to a wider audience once it hits the commercial scene, whilst still remaining in critical acclaim territory. 'Bright Idea' is Orson's first album, released in 2006. It contains many wonderful tracks and is full of intensity and fun - it is one of those albums you feel they had a lot of fun making. ... After falling in love with 'No Tomorrow', I was expecting Orson's 'Bright Idea' to be one of the albums of the year. With plenty of great breakthrough albums released this year such as The Automatic's 'Not Accepted Anywhere', The Fratellis 'Costello Music', and Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly's 'The Chronicles of a Bohemian Teenager', the question that needs to be asked is - was Orson's 'Bright Idea' one of them? Well, if you've listened to the album before then you've probably already made up your mind about that, however here is what I thought of the album. The first track here is 'Bright Idea'. This is an extremely soulful, laid back track with a chilled out vibe ... Read the complete review

I first discovered Orson totally by mistake, having got the kick off time of a football match wrong and turning over to BBC1 in the middle of a showing of “Davina” instead. I settled down to ignore it for half an hour and wait for the football until she introduced her musical guests and I was hooked by Orson’s “No Tomorrow”. The following day, I set about finding a copy of any album they may have released; only to discover there wasn’t one. I was just on the verge of making the most delayed impulse purchase ever when my flatmate came home with the CD, having made a similar purchase to help a long car journey from the South West to home. I was not reassured ... Read the complete review

Orson are my favourite new band of 2006, and after hearing their debut album, "Bright Idea", I knew that this is a formidable band destined for incredible success. They are no one-hit wonder. "No Tomorrow" was the anthem of 2006, but the rest of the album (well, most of it) compares well to their debut single. The album kicks off with the album titled track "Bright Idea". This is a powerful, anthemic tune and I think this had the potential to be another number one for the band - but the label screwed it up by releasing it too soon after "No Tomorrow". This is a great way to kick off the album. Next ... Read the complete review

Orson aren't the most well known band but they certainly a lot of radio play with this album which also happens to be their debut. They released a second album, Culture Vultures but it wasn't as successful and now they seem to have disappeared which is disappointing as I really love this album. My favourite songs off this album are: (1) Bright Idea, this was the second single released from the album. This is a great song, its very catchy and it got loads of radio play when it was released. (2) No tomorrow, this was the first single released, its very catchy and all the instruments work really well together. The singer is really good as ... Read the complete review
