Advantages: Gruelling guitar work, frantic drumbeats, and a fine display of barking vocals.
Disadvantages: The album isn't particularly long, 23 tracks and only just over 20 minutes of music.
F**k...I'm Dead (F.I.D.) is a grindcore band from Melbourne in Australia. In 2001 the band released the album 'Bring on the Dead' which features a total of 23 tracks and clocks in at just under 74 minutes. Whilst it technically clocks in at over an hour in length though, the last 45 minutes of the final live track 'Licky Webster' are silent so in actual fact the album is little over 20 minutes long. The longest track here is 'A Fraction of Death' which clocks in at 1 minute and 38 seconds, the music is fast and furious; a brutal mix of grindcore and goregrind pulled off to great effect.
What I love most about about this album is the relentless brutality with which F.I.D. smash their way through this album, never once does the band ever show any signs of slowing down and always the music is hard hitting and hugely effective. Each track here is a short stab of grindcore gold, the frantic pace of the music is expertly executed by F.I.D. at every point in the progression of this album. Few bands tend to make full use of the fretboard with the guitars, F.I.D. however are one band that most definitely do. As this album unfolds the guitar work is always excellent, the rate at which this instrument is played truly is phenomenal and never do the drumbeats disappoint. Vocally F.I.D. grunt and growl their way through this album, it's an interesting vocal display from the band and always it is impressive in its own way.
It's hard to recommend an album of twenty minutes in length, particularly when there are twenty three tracks that contribute to this relatively short run time. Most will not appreciate the music that F.I.D. produce as a band, it's an acquired taste but I personally am quite a fan. It's not my favourite sort of music in the world, but grindcore is a genre that I will happily listen to on the odd occasion. Although released back in 2001, 'Bring on the Dead' remains to be the last studio album released by F.I.D., a live album entitled 'Gore Grind Thrash Attack Live' was however released in late 2006 and also the band contributed eight of thirteen tracks to a split album with the American band Engorged in 2003. With song titles such as 'Army Of Hemaphrodites' and 'Spray Me With Fecal Matter', there is plenty here to keep you entertained just from reading the tracklist alone, and if you like your music hard and heavy then chances are that you'll love F.I.D.
Summary: 'Bring on the Dead' is a grindcore album well worth listening to.

- 01/04/08 Australia has an abundance of grind-core bands who like to swear with ridiculous song titles. Great aren't they? |

- 01/04/08 Ha ha, good ol' grindcore! Definitely the perfect listening material on occasion, but I could never be a huge fan. I always preferred the death bands who weren't so obsessed with speed. |
