Advantages: going electric
Disadvantages: hardly any
This is the one that broke the boundaries, & melded folk with rock, Dylan delivers another stunning collection, rewriting the rock rule book in the process.
One half acoustic, the other electric, providing the album with perfect balance & allowing space for Dylan's fertile imagination to take control, grabbing you from the opening bar of 'Subterranean Homesick Blues', finally releasing after the final chord of closer 'It's All Over Now, Baby Blue'.
The point of view is consistent throughout, only the instruments providing the backing vary, dazzling you from the lyrical fantasy of 'Mr Tambourine Man', through to the unorthodox balladry of 'She Belongs To Me' & 'Love Minus Zero/No Limit'.
Essential listening from start to finish, this is among Dylan's pivotal albums, showcasing everything that made him so unique in the 60's, even now it still sounds ahead of it's time, the sound of Dylan bounding into the distance, leaving his peers trailing in his wake.
Summary: One of Dylan's best.
