... 'quirky' element that is sorely lacking for me in a lot of his later work. There is no particular structure to a lot of the tracks, which could have gone either way, but lands firmly on the side of being brilliant. Bubble Toes is by far my favourite track on the album, with some fast vocals and a funky chorus that consists of singing 'La da dada da-daaaa!' over and over. Simple yet effective, and his relaxed and casual vocals and acoustic style just fit perfectly. Mudfootball is also classically written, using the famili...more

Premium Review Brushfire Fairytales - Jack Johnson: Never seen nobody move the way she did, but she did and she ... (600 words)

This album was my first experience of Jack Johnson, before his music became overly commercialised and too 'samey'. For me and a lot of others I know, we were surprised a few years later when people started going on about this 'new' artist, when we'd thought he was awesome for a while beforehand.... However, such is the case quite often in music, with artists needing that break before hitting the heights. Johnson is a prime example of someone who has made brilliant music for a while before being discovered and getting that all important break. I could not believe when I saw that there has only been one review of Jack Johnson's classic Brushfire Fairytales on DooYoo! I have to review this for you all, so that you can see what a fantastically brilliant talent jack Johnson is and show you that this album should be revered as a classic and 'Flake' treated as one of the greatest songs ever. Brushfire Fairytales was released on 6 February 2001, but is as fresh sounding now as it was then. Every back packer I met raved about him, so I had to give him a listen - all though it ...  Read the complete review

THIS REVIEW CAN ALSO BE FOUND ON UK.BEST-PRICE.COM How I came across this CD: I can't remember when and why exactly I got this CD. I think it was a present from a friend. She was a big Jack Johnson fan, had all his CDs and used to play it in the kitchen. One day I heard it and I asked her for the disk. Later I also got "On and On" and "In Between Dreams". About Jack Johnson: Jack Hody Johnson (born May 18, 1975) is a Hawaii-born singer-songwriter, musician, filmmaker, and surfer who achieved commercial success and a dedicated following, after the release of his debut album, Brushfire Fairytales in 2001. He has ...  Read the complete review
