Advantages: Brilliant lyrics, melody and all round great album

Disadvantages: Only disadvantage is that it ends

I could not believe when I saw that there has only been one review of Jack Johnson's classic Brushfire Fairytales on DooYoo! I have to review this for you all, so that you can see what a fantastically brilliant talent jack Johnson is and show you that this album should be revered as a classic and 'Flake' treated as one of the greatest songs ever. Brushfire Fairytales was released on 6 February 2001, but is as fresh sounding now as it was then.

It was a strange way that I was turned on to Johnson's music, but he was big news in New Zealand when I was travelling there. Every back packer I met raved about him, so I had to give him a listen - all though it would have been hard to miss him.

Jack Johnson is a surfer and his laid back attitude to life is definitely apparent in the happy go lucky songs, the take it or leave it attitude that seeps through every track. Jack Johnson has composed songs for G. Love and Special Sauce, and is signed to Ben Harper's manager's record label, so it's no surprise that his debut turns out to be the kind of laid-back acoustic funk beloved of fans of both those outfits.

Johnson's songs are simultaneously well crafted and executed in an almost throwaway manner. "Fortunate Fool" is airy yet acidic--this surfer dude is no airhead--while "F-Stop Blues," on the surface a paean to the surfer lifestyle, is really a lament for wasted time that features Johnson's pleasant, lazy vocals to excellent effect. Brushfire Fairytales displays the kind of insouciance born of innocence, almost as if no-one involved cared if the album sold ten copies or ten million--and of course that's the attraction.

For "Flake," the most familiar song on the album, Johnson teams up with Ben Harper. Johnson provides the rhymes and Harper adds the catchy rhythms on this entertaining track. It is without doubt the stand out track on the alubm. Other standouts include "F-StopBlues" and "Mudfootball", two great cheery, happy tunes that I guarantee will put a smile on your face. Every track has fantastic meaningful lyrics, backed up with great music. Sexy plexi is a curious song, but one that still wants to be listened to over and over.

Brushfire Fairytales is the perfect CD for anyone looking to have a great musical experience and be enlightened at the same time. Johnson gives a little bit of something for everyone, which makes him all the more versatile and enjoyable. Overall, this CD guarantees a happily-ever-after ending.

Summary: Please listne to Flake. It is excellent
